Need advice for bathroom mirror

The walls of our bathroom are tiled to all most my shoulders and then after that there is painted wall. That makes it hard placing a mirror on top of the sink. If you put the mirror on the wall I can just see my face and it is to high for my kids to see anything. If I put it in the tile then it is too low. Any ideas how I can put a mirror that is half in the tile and half on the wall? There is a round bull nose (sp?) type of tile on the edge so there is a bump when the tile ends and when the wall starts. The tiling is "ancient" and I do not want to touch it.

My only idea was to buy a "tilting" mirror because those stand away from the wall. Are those good? Do those brackets can truly support a heavy mirror?

Not really a kitchen issue, but if it's a framed mirror, the easy thing to do is put a small piece of wood on the wall at the right height to hang the mirror, with a couple of screws into studs, and hang the mirror from that so it's at the right height, and the wood pushes it out so that it hangs flat and freely over the tile.

Restoration Hardware (and others) sell mirrors that are attached to two pivots - the pivots are what attach to the wall, so the mirrors sit out slightly from the wall. Perhaps that depth would be enough, or you could combine this with plllog's wood-block method to bump out the attachment point.

Alexia, We had the same problem...the wife is just at 5 feet tall, I am 6'3" so we needed a mirror we could both use, without the use of step stools (to stand on or, sit on). We ended up installing a mirror which went from the top of the back splash to the 6'3" level. That meant it had to span across tile and drywall. On the tile, we used large but, thin felt pads. On the drywall, we used thicker pads. We then mounted the mirror and it lays evenly on the wall. The frame for the mirror hides the differences in spacing when viewed from the side. In case Jenn gets notifications on this thread, I have a similar problem. I wanted to use sconces but think there is not enough room so I think we might need to use a bathroom bar. How is the lighting you are receiving from the lighting? Are the shadows impossible? Troubling? Minimal? Thanks...should you see this.

Think of each sink on its own. I assume the sink will be centered in the 24" cabinet. So it can't be 24 inch wide, because you need space for a sconce on either side and the sconce should be a couple of inches from the mirror. So I would guess 20 to 22 inches wide maximum. So a search on the photos or products on Houzz to see if your cabinets come up. It is easier to make the right decision with some visuals. You can wait to until the cabinets are installed and the take on site measurements. I like rectangle mirrors the best for functionality.
