LG TROMM Owners - L/R Question

We just bought blue LG TROMM at Best Buy today (small President's Day sale and 10% BB coupon). The LG units are designed for easiest use with washer on the left and dryer on the right, as you face them. The washer door opens to the left, allowing movement of wet clothes into dryer on the right without either door getting in the way. The dryer's door opens to the right, but can be mounted opening to the left. The washer door is not reversible.

Has anyone installed the washer on the left, running the water lines behind the dryer, and into a stationary tub (utility tub, slop sink) on right of dryer?

If we install the washer next to the stationary tub, the door of the washer will get in the way when we move clothes to the dryer.

I think you should be allright. The issue for me would be in the drain hose. But, here is a quote from the Training Manual:

The drain pipe should be firmly attached to the standpipe or the laundry tub or sink where it drains. The pump has sufficient power to cause the pipe to move around when the water is expelled. The pump can lift the drain water a maximum of 96 inches (2.4 m), but there is no minimum height requirement. The vacuum breaker in the drain line will prevent drainage by gravity or siphoning. The hose can lay flat into a floor drain as long as the end of it is not submerged.

It looks like there would be plenty of power to push the additional distance. Just be sure you use extra-quality hoses, both for input and output.

Thanks - it went in just fine. I got braided steel encased hoses, 72" - which were about 6" too short... Had to pick up a couple more short hoses with a female-female connector. It's cycling now for the first time, and everything looks good. My wife and I have been looking into the tub with a flashlight. The discharge line was long enough, and I strapped it to the edge of the utility tub.

With the riser/storage drawers, the units fit under the overhead cupboard with fractions of an inch to spare! Glad I checked specs on the pdf file and double checked by measuring floor units!

We purchased at Best Buy on Sunday at about 2:00 PM, for next day (today) delivery. Got a call at about 8:00 PM to let us know that delivery would be between 7 & 8 AM (!). Truck pulls up at about 7:45. Old units removed and new ones installed before 9 AM. The lead installation guy really knew his stuff and did a quick, clean job. Got a call from delivery control right at 9 AM to confirm that delivery was made and that everything was OK. Delivery guy told us that we have 30 days to return for something else if we don't like them (Hmmm, the red looks really hot!) Direct TV and Verizon have a whole lot to learn from Best Buy when it comes to customer satisfaction and quality control.

I'd recommend a repair call with a firm that regularly services SZ to check everything out, plus the service person can show you how to best remove & clean the grill work. Your problem may be a door seal or something else unrelated to the grill gunk.

Yeah their stuff was amazing - here's their coffee table that opens up to become a hi-fi and a TV projector: But anyway, there's an estalished "grey market" in selling items intended for sale in foreign contries in the US by companies other than the company's authorized US distributor. It's completely legal, and it's how many of us bought our cameras in the '70s through '90s, but you can expect the manufacturer's warranty won't be honored in the US, so you'd have to haul the thing back to Canada to get LG to pay for repairs the first year. After that, since it uses virtully the same parts as a fridge that was sold for many years in the US, finding someone who can repair it, even authorized LG service agents, should be easy. Companies never like grey-market imports taking business away from their chosen importers, so don't expect LG to give you the green light. Instead, call an appliance store near the border, ask them to look at the placard inside the door (or in the use & care or installation manual) and see if there's any reference to American service addresses, phone numbers, or at least UL certification. Some will have US yellow "EnergyGuide" stickers on them, often reversible to Canadian energy guides. you can probably find a dealer along the southern border willing to send one across state lines - especially smaller mom & pop independent shops that need every sale they can get and are less tied down with corporate-HQ policies to follow. If all else falls, plan a trip to Montreal or Toronto - plenty of interesting things to do there besides scoping out exotic appliances.... just bring a truck, van, SUV, or some wagons large enough to hold a boxed fridge, probably on its side.

Just an afterthought. concerning leveling, if you are using pedestals.... When the Home Depot guys off loaded the washer and pedestal, they married the two out in the street before bringing it into the house. I watched everything they did (and didn't) do. The two pieces get married with these brackets on the sides that both screw and glue together. They just slapped the two units together, not paying any attention to the leveling legs that were on the bottom of the washer, now resting on the top of the pedestal. Who knows what position they were in, after coming all the way from Asia. What I found out later, was that these leveling legs do influence the vibration coming off the machine. Even if you get the complete unit level, you can still have some vibration problems if the leveling legs on the washer were wacked when they put the two together. Unfortunately, the glue they use for the brackets is fairly permanent, and hard to make changes after the fact. I would probably suggest that the legs on the washer be put all the way in prior to joining the pieces together; or, level the pedestal, put the washer on top, level that, and then put the joining brackets on. I love Home Depot, but they really should get better-than-minimum-wage contractors to do these installs. Good luck.

HaHa. The machine runs fine with just a few items. This salesman has probably taken the concept that the washing action is produced by clothing rolling around against each other, to an absurd extreme. You can overload it. I have never gotten an error from the machine, but I have packed it so full that even when wet, the clothes had little room to slosh around and "clean". Didn't hurt the machine, but didn't do a good job of cleaning, either. Some items, like comforters don't get much smaller when wet, so they are more difficult to wash. Same concept applies. I load it to about 4/5 full of loose dry clothing, which when wet, takes up about 1/2 of the tub. I'm sure this is rather universal with Front Loaders. Rigbybrowndog: You will have to try the settings out to see what situations to use them. The LG uses little water in a normal wash. I like to use the "water plus" option often. I like the results. I don't mind spending the $$ for a little more water. A little more sloshing action. Its better than not having any control over that at all. You will need to find these things out for yourself. The manual gives general guidelines. Practically, you may find you like certain combinations of wash/steam/stain/waterlevel/clotheslevel. I tend to believe that the SteamWash function was an afterthought. I think they wanted to have a SteamFresh clothing steamer, so they built in a steamer assembly, and then they thought, well, we might as well activate it during a wash cycle, too. PS. I got a lot more info out of the Service Manual than I did anywhere else.
