Comments (11)If you don't read my entire post...it got long....I buried a question in one paragraph about "what other options do you like about this washer?". This may be a bit off topic, but my washer headed south yesterday and had to buy a new set this morning. A set was my only option with current stackables in a laundry/cabinet arrangement. A match to the old dryer wouldn't exist...so, a whole new set was required. Spent last night going through the forum and the net looking at options. Although I read the LG applauses, had directed myself to another manuafacturer. AFter getting to the store, the "other" manufacturer was not up to the quality, nor were others in the price range I was working with. I was playing the money game and had no idea how expensive replacing what I had/want was going to be.. End of story...bought LG stackable units. Nope, not end of story.... looked at the washer details when I got home and was questioning why I needed $200 plus in extra options on a washer. One of which is the steamer and until this thread had no clue what that was. I was going back to the store to change the order to the lower price washer. But now am having second thoughts. What else do you guys like about these units? The washer sounds like it is the same you are discussing...2496H and the dryer is the DLG9588. The dryer was also 200 more...gas and option to have panel in the middle with washer controls (adaptable control center). This is fairly important due to my shortness, plus eyesight at old age (who wants to do laundry wearing reading glasses?). I may be having buyers remorse with the final cost of 30% more than planned....or sticker shock. The new set has more chrome details than my car does.... And the "steamer:....I can see using this, if it works as described, for when summer/winter clothes are brought back out from storage....See MoreSelecting a washing machine - LG vs Huebsch(Speed Queen)
Comments (1)I am not the best person to answer your questions, but I did want to tell you that while I've been happy with the capacity of my LG (I have a top loading HE, 3 years old), the rotor (motor part) has gone out two times. LG's customer service has been great though- they are sending a tech out next week to fix the rotor, and they did so the first time. The motor is covered for 10 years. One question is, how far out do you live? Can a tech get to your house easily? My feeling is that maybe SQ is easier to fix than LG, although I don't know. To get my LG fixed, I've had to use the repair people that LG contracts with. One thing you might do is ask the appliance people who you would have to get out to fix the LG if there are any problems (if you want to get it fixed under warranty). Same with SQ. How do you feel about the capacity of your Bosch? Go to You Tube and look at some videos of Speed Queen and LG- you'd be surprised at how many videos there are of people doing their laundry there! You can get an idea of how much a SQ can hold and see if it looks okay for you. The large capacity is nice for bedding and towels, but I don't have 6 kids :) Honestly though, I've been happy with the LG for large loads, but for small and medium loads, the washer seems to have to rebalance those loads all the time- which it does by adding more water and redistributing the clothing I think this wastes more water than regular top loaders! I also find the cloths get all tangled because there is no spindle in the middle. Maybe I have a lemon, I don't know if other machines do this or not. For my 2 adult household, this is more drum capacity than I need. Do you do all your laundry together, or separate into colors? The LG seems to do best if it's stuffed to the brim (at least in my machine, I can't speak for others). I'm currently looking at getting a SQ!...See MoreLG Steam vs Kenmore Steam
Comments (22)LG is actually not a new company. They were around for many years before they were known as LG. The old BRAND name was Goldstar, but in their product literature you would see it referred to as Lucky Goldstar...thus the abbreviation "LG". The company decided to "re-invent" itself. It did this by making better products under a revision to its name. When we bought our home last year, I was ready to buy the Duet models after using a set that belonged to my boyfriend's dad. I was impressed with how quiet they were. Before being able to buy a set, my boyfriend insisted on looking at Consumer Reports. After reading, he said he wanted this LG Steamwasher and dryer. I can say that the washer is not quite as quiet as the Duet, especially the drain pump. But it holds a lot of clothing, does a great job and obviously uses less energy and consumables. There is one thing I DON'T like about the LG, which is the fact that it loves to play with the water valves. Every time you start a cycle, the washer pops the hot and cold valves open and closed for about half a second or less about six or seven times each. My frail plumbing just loves this, so I had to install anti-water hammer devices. I *think* the washer is merely trying to get the soap in the dispenser to flow out to the wash tub without foaming out and making a mess. The spin cycle has a characteristic 'jet engine' sound, and the drain pump does have a mean sound. I like using the set. I simply wish that the washer had one more feature that the dryer already has: A custom cycle button. And if you get one, don't handle the chrome door too much as it can scratch....See Morenew LG set - steam not working???
Comments (6)HI. I can try to keep this brief, because there is a lot of information and learning curve going from a traditional TL to a FL. OK...at this point, please do not worry about how little water it uses, it is normal for you NOT to see water in a modern FL washer. You will not ever actually SEE steam in your washer, period. The heater will run, but will not produce visible steam, and it will boost the current temperature inside your machine. This is normal. FL washers always take longer, this is also normal. Since they use less water, cleaning takes longer. They rinse multiple times, resulting in cleaner and better rinsed clothes. They spin faster, reducing drying times. I am not an LG user, but i do think that the Turbo wash does turn on jets, but only at intervals, not constantly. The orange jet, I think, is for spray rinsing with fresh water. Normal cycle is your most water restricted, energy saving cycle. It is not meant for hygienic washes nor heavily soiled laundry. Hot washes are guaranteed by the Sanitize (150F+\-) and Allergiene (130 F minimum) cycles. Did you read your user manual carefully? I strongly encourage you to do so, and understand the cycles. Even monitor your machine throughout cycles, if you are so inclined. Experiment a bit with what works for your needs, your soils, and your conditions. Your machine is operating as it should. Front loading washer are the way to go, I promise; there are just a few adjustments in switching over. I am sure others will chime in, too. I could go on and on...lol. Please ask questions, we are all here to help....See Moresugar_and_spice
