Do the water filter status lights do anything?
Comments (3)Most of the indicator lights are nothing more than timers set to go off. The cost of actually instrumenting a water quality tester to trigger the light is unlikely. There could be a couple of reasons why your indicator light is not working. First, you usually have to set/reset the indicator when you replace the filter. This tells the timer to restart. If you never did this when you first installed the refrigerator, it's possible the light will never go off. Second, if the indicator light lit but you didn't replace the filter or reset the indicator, then it's possible that it only stays lit for some duration of time before going off until you reset it to restart the timer. Power outages can cause timers to reset but I think this is less of a problem with newer models since they use flash memory to store and recover settings and state. Third, it could be your indicator lamp is just broken. No way to tell unless you wait until you think it should go on again or call in a repair person (which will cost of course). I'd suggest taking a look in your manual and go through the procedure of reseting the indicator since you just replaced the filter. Good luck....See MoreProblem with Samsung French Door Refrigerator's Water Filter
Comments (113)Always use Samsung brand filters. Filters from other manufacturers, even if they indicate compatibility, may damage your fridge and water filter housing, or break off and leave pieces of the filter inside (like the cap), preventing a new filter from being inserted. A few years ago, the HAF-CU1 model's design was changed from a 2-rib lock to a 3-rib lock in order to provide a tighter fit and better seal. However, the new filter design will still fit in older models of refrigerators, which is why the model and part number was not changed. The first time you switch to the 3-rib type, you may need to perform the "fully unlock the housing" procedure described here, even though the old 2-rib type was also a genuine filter. If the old filter inserts easily but the new filter does not, it is because the old filter is not opening the locking mechanism all the way to make room for the correct Samsung brand filter. It only opens the lock enough for itself to get out. To fix this, hold the old filter in the locking mechanism and turn it all the way open before letting it come out. This is sort of like using the old filter as a screwdriver to open the lock all the way. The steps are: Temporarily reinstall the old filter. While pressing the filter into the housing, turn it to the left as far as it will go, even past the point where the filter could be removed, until the filter can no longer be turned left while held into the housing. Remove the old filter, and install the new filter. Comments (53)We started the pandemic at our winter house and are currently at our summer house. I love our townhouse in California. It's the smallest house I've lived in, but I got to renovate and decorate to my current taste. We were very comfortable there, but really bored staying in. All the projects have been done, landscape maintained by HOA, only a small patio with a few potted plants. Really easy to house clean. I spent hours and hours reading. All my usual activities there are outside the home. We are back at our lake house in PA. Always house projects to do. Vegetable and flower gardens to tend. I tend to be much more of a homebody here. I'm happy to poke around in my gardens and kayak out on the lake. I don't love this house as much. It has a somewhat awkward layout(fixed as much as we could when we reno'd). More of a mishmash of furniture styles. If it was up to me, I'd live in CA year round. But my DH loves it here so this is my 6 month compromise....See MoreGlass Cabinet fronts? What do you put inside?
Comments (43)Hard to suggest more specifically without seeing kitchen layout, but I would reduce the glassed cabinets to accommodate the type of useful items you’ll be storing - glass is also a pain to keep clean. Having them all together is visually appealing as well. In our last home we designed something like below, but double the size and used special glass (See link). Like minded items and larger pieces made it efficient - platters, bowls, pottery, jugs, vases, extra dishes and wine glasses. Cupboards don’t have to be staged with unusable things; contents just can’t feel cluttered and messy. https://www.fabglassandmirror.com/cabinet-glass?type=textured-glass Here are some ideas and hope something would work with your kitchen...See Morejcrowley99
