Kenmore Elite Maytag Samsung or other french door refrigerator?
Comments (3)Icemakers thru the dooor generally have 2 major drawbacks - they take up precious room in prime space and they are more prone to breaking. That said, they obviously are popular because everyone offers them I have posted positively here about the Samsung FD fridge (highest customer satisfaction 3 years in a row from JD Powers) but the model we have has the ice maker in the bottom freezer. I am 6'3" tall - and find it suprisingly accessable. Wasn't sure at first how I would like it but my whole family loves it. We just open up the bottom freezer and use the provided scoop to pick up some ice. Actually easier for us now than it was with our old side by side fridge even before the thru the door ice maker on the old KA side by side broke twice So don't be put off by the icemaker in the bottom. Check out the different units and get a feel for how accessable they may be...See MoreFrench Door Refrigerator: LG or Samsung?
Comments (28)Well I have a lg french door 24.7 refrigerator and it's been a joy to own so far. The doors close via hydraulic assist, the led lights actually illuminate every shelf unlike the ge profile with single cluster at the top of the fridge. The ice maker makes ice, never seen it without any ice and we use it every day. Speaking of the ice dispensor I really love the stainless steel switch, other are cheap plastic, and the two bright led lights that actually illuminate the dispensor area so you can actually see your cup. The doors are solid, the ge felt strange and the door handles flexed on it as did the sears units I looked at. I bought mine a hhgregg and also got the 5 year extended warranty just in case but so far the only thing I've done is change a water filter. Speaking of filters lg changed the model to a new upgraded filter so keep that in mind if you want to replace it and don't see the one listed in the manual. I also have to say that lg has been fantastic for me with their steam washer and dryer that I also have, the red units on pedestals with the green led panels. They wash and dry effectively and the led lights in the tub so you can see your laundry at the end of the cycle is a very nice touch. My experience with lg has been very good so far and I would not hessitate to buy another appliance from them. I did however skip their dishwasher in favor of the samsung unit because of the features that the samsung had....See MoreSamsung 29 CF FrenchRefrigerator: Reliability/Service Issues?
Comments (14)Actually, all those horror stories are probably glorified by haters, which often happens. Samsung actually has great service and repair now and their products, especially home appliances, have one of the lower returns rates in the US. If you purchase any Samsung appliance from Lowe's, and something goes wrong, Lowe's will switch it out for you. Some repairmen, who are alittle behind the times, would say that Samsung's are "awful", etc. because they didn't want to pay to be trained/educated on higher-end products. Products like Samsung are known to be higher-end but at a cost efficient price. Repairmen typically bad-mouth applainces that they can't repair because if more people purchase them, they can't fix em. And if they aren't aurthorized to fix them, they can't make money! Samsung (one of THE largest technology company in the world) does not put materials that look like they came out of a Kracker Jack box. They have a reputation to uphold. 99.9% of Samsung fridges have this technology called Twin-Cooling or Twin-Cooling Plus. Three huge benefits would be: Energy efficiency, no mixing of orders and most importantly, your foods remains fresher waaaay longer than the conventional fridge. You get similar technology from Sub-Zero and Liebherr. Those two companies produce the highest end refrigeration but their fridges have two compressors and Samsung has one. Samsung just got another award from JD Powers for the fourth year in a row now. A JD Powers award is like getting an Oscar. It cannot be planned. Comments (26)Update #2: Our new Samsung refrigerator was delivered this morning. It took a while to figure out the control panel and how to make all the settings. I can hardly believe it, but this thing seems to work perfectly so far. The best thing is that I hit a home run with my wife on this thing! She absolutely loves it. I checked the temps and the refrigerator is at 37 degrees, the Flex Zone is at 34 degrees, and the freezer is at 2 degrees. The door in door feature is great for grabbing our milk and coffee creamer without having to open the main door, which helps to keep cool air in the fridge. The LED lighting is fantastic in this model and the crisper drawers glide in and out so smoothly. I was initially dead set against getting a French Door model, because I do have back and knee problems, and I didn't want to have to bend down every time I wanted something from the freezer. But the reviews on most side by sides were so bad that I just couldn't pull the trigger. Also, my wife wanted the French Door so she could chill foods prepared on cookie sheets or store wide food platters, which you cannot do in a side by side. So, my solution for the freezer is that I will store the items that I use on the top drawer, and my wife can put other things on the lower level. It's actually not that hard to access my items because the freezer drawer pulls out so far and I don't really have to bend down that much to grab something off of the top drawer, and I am almost 6 feet tall. This is, by far, the quietest refrigerator I've ever heard. When the house is dead quiet, I can barely hear it running from 10 feet away. I guess our old fridge had gotten really loud after 35 years of operation! About the only noise it ever makes is the ice maker dropping cubes and the water pitcher refilling....See MoreMatt Q
