We also bought our Samsung with the Lowes warranty. I just love our french door. We bought ours last November. One of the main selling points was the dual evaporator. I love the deli tray and also the freezer drawer that can expand to fill with tons of ice. I use the "power cool" and "power freeze" buttons all of the time. When I come in from 100 degree heat outside with the grocerys and the fridge door is left open to put them away, it's nice to be able to boost that temp. up a for a bit. I've had 6 refridgerators in the past 11 years, and my Samsung is by far the best. My one concern when buying it was that it had a little bit less space than our previous one, but it's so well made I feel like I have more space.

If this were Facebook, I'd "like" weissman's post. I posted my Samsung model number in my first post on this thread. The icemaker is in the freezer and the fridge has an internal water dispenser. I live in a major metro area on the east coast. There are at least two authorized service providers in my area. I had to make several calls to Samsung to get warranty service on my icemaker when it failed in the first year; now, at the end of the second year, I had to argue and move up the "chain of command" at both Samsung and then their service provider to get them to come out and look at the refrigerator when the entire unit stopped cooling; I also had to prepay for a service call in order for them to come out. It has a five year warranty on sealed refrigeration system. After two service calls this week, most likely it is a leak in the system as there was no freon/coolant/whatever-it-is-called left in the fridge. The repairman was unable to find the leak but charged the system with coolant and it started working again.. but for how long? The leak hasn't been located, much less repaired. For now, we are just putting a few drink items and lots of beer in it and will see how it does over the next few days. To be fair, the second repairman to show up was very professional and knowledgable--and listened politely to my tale of woe--but until today, the customer service provided was quite poor.

The Samsung and GE look very similar, but if you compare the drawers and movements of the two, the GE sounds really flimsy. I've usually seen one of the drawers cracked on the GE, never on the Samsung. And, I really like the easy-open of the bottom freezer on the Samsung. Much better for my tender sciatic nerve! I'd initially rejected FD fridges after visits to appliance stores where I'd twice I'd left with a backache from pulling on the freezer door handles. ANd that was with the drawers empty! So, if you're young and healthy, either might do fine. But since my back injury 5 years ago, the Samsung is the only one that I could safely open.

Always use Samsung brand filters. Filters from other manufacturers, even if they indicate compatibility, may damage your fridge and water filter housing, or break off and leave pieces of the filter inside (like the cap), preventing a new filter from being inserted. A few years ago, the HAF-CU1 model's design was changed from a 2-rib lock to a 3-rib lock in order to provide a tighter fit and better seal. However, the new filter design will still fit in older models of refrigerators, which is why the model and part number was not changed. The first time you switch to the 3-rib type, you may need to perform the "fully unlock the housing" procedure described here, even though the old 2-rib type was also a genuine filter. If the old filter inserts easily but the new filter does not, it is because the old filter is not opening the locking mechanism all the way to make room for the correct Samsung brand filter. It only opens the lock enough for itself to get out. To fix this, hold the old filter in the locking mechanism and turn it all the way open before letting it come out. This is sort of like using the old filter as a screwdriver to open the lock all the way. The steps are: Temporarily reinstall the old filter. While pressing the filter into the housing, turn it to the left as far as it will go, even past the point where the filter could be removed, until the filter can no longer be turned left while held into the housing. Remove the old filter, and install the new filter. If this method does not work, or the old filter is no longer available to use, visit our Support Center to request service.
