No heat in working Maytag Electric Dryer MD7500

User

It is below freezing in NYC today -- could that have anything to do with the fact that my otherwise working/tumbling electric Maytag MD7500 (about 5 or so years old) is not heating. It worked for one load today but then went cold.

What else could be wrong? Is there anything I can do to check it out? I have a flexible vent out the window and I haven't tried cleaning it. It may take a professional in any case. My hope is that the weather will warm up tomorrow and the dryer just start working again. Am I too optimistic?

In case my fantasy doesn't come true, some realism: Maytag Service no longer answers. I see on the internet you have to to call Sears All-Brand. I called the appliance store where I purchased the dryer and they gave me two obsolete numbers. (The store still sells Maytag but is not recommending them anymore because of the poor service.)

I'm going to repair.com as per another post on this forum but I wanted to some answers from this site's always-helpful group ASAP. Thank you.
