My old washer had a hand dry cycle and Iused that and use the no heat cycle on my dryer.
With my new Bosch 500+, wash them on the jeans cycle and damp dry in the dryer and the come out good.

I find that line-dried (or flat dried) jeans lose their stiffness quite quickly when worn. Shaking them out before putting them on can help accelerate the process.

I only have 2 pairs of jeans so am no expert, but I always wash in very warm water and follow with the dryer. No problems...so what is the reason to avoid the dryer?

Kevinm, I had to chuckle about at this one as my wife purchases jeans that fit just right without any allowances for the natural shrinkage (even if they are pre-washed jeans) and since I learned how to do the laundry properly since childhood I do all our laundry that does not get sent to the dry cleaners. I always must hang my wife's jeans to dry while all mine get tossed into the dryer. The dryer will not fade your jeans (the washer will), but it will shrink them down a bit (a lot if they are not pre-shrunk) requiring you to physically wear them to regain the size you want. You can simply throw your jeans into the dryer after they are completely dry and run them on a fluff cycle to rid most of the stiffness.

I dry our jeans on low and have never had a problem with shrinking. Also, try using white vinegar in the softener cycle in the washer. It helps get all of the soap out which can make your clothes stiff.

I always use cold water i the wash for mine. if I used hot water they'd never fit again!

I would wash (on as low a temperature as possible unless v dirty) & dry inside out to avoid fading, unless you want them to fade of course & use some fabric softner. I always line dry as do most folks in Europe to save energy. My 2 children always wore jeans & no problem if follow with a steam iron.

To keep their color,I turn my jeans inside-out, wash in warm water,rinse in cold. I dry my jeans outside on a clothesline,then bring them inside and put them in the dryer at low temperature for ten to 15 minutes, to get rid of stiffness. My jeans never even need ironing with this method.

Huh? Washing in warm water and drying makes jeans shrink? I always do this and have just never had any shrinking problem. My washer has a jeans cycle and I think it uses warm 105F water for the wash. But since I don't wear them alot there is less washing so maybe that is how I've avoided shrinkage.

I used to buy Levi 501 jeans that were made to shrink. I would wash them 2 times in hot water, dry them slightly then put them on damp and let them conform to my body. After that they fit fine and I just washed on hot and dried.

Now I thought everything was preshrunk. What brands of jeans is everyone wearing that are shrinking?

All this time I thought I was growing rather than my jeans shrinking. Thanks for opening my eyes to other possiblities. Now I think I'll have another sundae. (j/k)

At one of the cleaners, that I used to use there were always jeans hanging on the racks. When I asked why I was told that long-haul truckers' like to have their jeans dry-cleaned as they stay fresher, and cleaner longer. I have never tried it so I have no substantiation of the claim.
