I wouldn't use vinegar. Vinegar is used with dye to set color in Easter eggs. Or that was how you used to dye eggs. So I would be afraid the vinegar would set the stain. Also, if you have run in through the dryer you probably have permanently set the stain. Have you tried one of the prewash products such as spray n wash? I actually use an Oxiclean prewash that I really like. Try spraying it down and then dusting it with laundry detergent. Use a toothbrush and lightly scrub the area, keeping it wet with the prewash product. Come back and check on it and see if it's releasing any of the color. Just don't use the bleach formulation of laundry detergents. And I know everyone is "gun hoe" about Charlie's, but try a different brand. Even if you have to borrow a cup from the neighbor. My last stand product is Oil-Eaters. Again you would spray on as a prewash and gently scrub with a toothbrush. I have used it to take grease out of clothes. And it hasn't taken the color out, but it wasn't polar fleece. It does list as a laundry prewash on the bottle. But I would test it in an inconspicuous spot before using.

Have you tried another cycle besides Normal? Maybe Darks/Colors, which uses "low to medium speed wash action". You can also add the Stain Treat function to the D/C cycle and set the Soil Level to Light - this should give you a short main wash ( -> little agitation) due to the Light Soil Level, yet maintain a proper cleaning result, due to Stain Treat. Just a thought... BTW: Fisher & Paykel just released their version of the Oasis in Australia and New Zealand. It has a dedicated Jeans cycle. Unfortunately, the manual contains very little information about what the Jeans cycle actually does... "JEANS can be responsible for damaging other items in the wash. They should be washed separately, and require their own specific wash action to get clean. ThatÂs why we [Fisher & Paykel] have created a special cycle specifically for JEANS. The cold wash temperature helps reduce loss of colour and the fast spin ensures that your jeans will dry quickly." Alex

In the past we have used the living room mostly for formal entertaining with just adults. When we include the children at parties, we usually do something more casual in the family room, where we have totally kid-proof leather upholstery. Also, we have always had our den/office area set-up as a sitting room rather than an office, and I'm thinking of going for a darker, sort of english-men's-clubby look in there. For some reason, my big fear is dye transfer from blue-jeans, more so than the daily-wear-and-tear thing. I have to kind-of chuckle when I think of deciding which room to invite guests to sit in based on their attire.. I was thinking I could have a pretty throw on the white sofa for the occasional family member who might wander in to sit with a book or something. Also, the room is large enough that there will be other seating, in darker colors, so anyone with apprehension about sitting on the white will have options. Do I sound like I'm trying to talk myself into it? I suppose because it seems to me that white looks better than any of the other lighter-colored options, and also, I wonder if the concerns with stains/dirt/wear would be much less, say with pale blue or gold, than they would with white? I do not see a very dark color in that room, so the colored options are almost as light as the white. Funny, I heard a comment on "The stagers" on HGTV, where the designer was using a white sofa, and made an aside comment that they "never recommended them for their design clients"--only for staging, as they would look grungy in a few months. I thought when I posted this, that I might hear from people who had white, and then regretted it after living with it. However it's interesting that the people who responded who said they actually have a white sofa, all said they had no problems and loved it. Any more white-upholstery owners want to weigh-in? (So far only 5 white-sofa owners have responded.) It would be interesting to hear from more--I wonder if I'm needlessly concerned about the white, as those with experience living with it, (so far) unanamously seem to love it!

1. You had brought from the same person before and no problem. 2. This rug (however it got dirty) faded when it was cleaned-wet. So much so that the dye faded through to the rug below. 3. He has a no questions asked return policy. (He is probably buying these rugs for next to nothing and fixing them for the current overdyed craze.) To me his return policy means that he can afford to take them back. 4. Reading the how to dye a rug link in a post closer to the top of this page, it says it has to be a WOOL rug. Back in our first years we dyed a nylon rug and it looked great, but it was at the front door and when it got damp from walking on it, it faded onto the wood floor. I didn't think I was ever going to get the dye out! 5. I think he may have got ahold of a rug that was not wool and the dye didn't take. I had a rug at one time that looked just like wool, but it was a synthetic. I would return the rug if I could, BECAUSE the dye runs and it will stain the floor. Any rug will have to be cleaned at some point or someone will walk on it with wet shoes or spill a drink on it. 6. If it cannot be returned, you could take it outside this spring and clean it throughly, and redye the entire rug. (We used Rit dye), However, I would hang it on a wall and not trust it on the floor.
