Denim
From Alexa Chung chatting it up about denim in the British Vogue to recent runway show displays like Stella McCartney's tank dress to full-window shop dressings, denim is in the current fashion spotlight. And no wonder: ever classic, ever the hint of casual Americana, denim never fades away.
As always, the design houses and fashion shows are a preview to what will come to the home design world. These photos show not only denim itself in its varying forms and colors, but denim-inspired furniture and textiles as well as the chic-but-worn-in concept that denim has brought to aesthetic consciousness. From those perfectly worn in pair of jeans to that cozy chambray comforter: long live denim!

As American and casual as it gets, denim enters in small bits into this bedroom, adding to its laid-back beachy feel.
The lighter, softer denim of chambray gives a cool and comfortable balance to the mass of wood throughout. Chambray is a great denim option when a dwelling needs a gentler visual touch, such as infant crib bedding. Check out Pottery Barn's chambray infant crib sheets for a great example.
The same color transfered into a fine wood finish warms this entire space without shouting COLOR. Like a classic pair of jeans, this color will never become outdated.
The same color transfered into this couch gives this simple corner the understated detail it needs. The coordinating wall art and the stripes in the fabric are perfect.
Casual in color and material, this daybed couch and trunk table suggest a deliberate casualness.
As indigo as it gets, this room is elegant and finished, yet the color (and casual placement of the furniture...) helps keep an air of stiff formality at bay. The room is chic but relaxed.
This indigo shade gives silhouette and detail to this clean, geometric room. The color adds interest and dimension without adding distracting hues.
The light blue a hint at denim itself, this very American setting balances beautifully that worn-in-yet-elegant, that shabby-chic, look. This setting is most effectively achieved when raw eclectic pieces are thrown together with refined details. (Also note how the table is simply a fold-out covered in white linen--a great example of how to get a big aesthetic bang for your buck...)
Sometimes it takes only a small hint of the fabric to contribute to the casual atmosphere and add an unexpected element.
And, like a great old pair of jeans: denim goes with everything.
This zoomed out view shows how the pillow integrates into the entire room, blending not only with other denim but with other blues and neutrals as well.
As fantastic as white denim and its clean and worn aesthetic, layers of monochromatic antique pieces gives a pristine yet lived-in look.
More fantastic layers of worn yet elegant whites.
A hint of a blue chambray color in the kitchen keeps this area from being TOO white.
More denim-esque detailing to add to a chill and clean room. Note the awesome choice of such a versatile table.
