Brad, I'm crossing my fingers and sending confident thoughts to you on that job interview. Your first job, that's exciting!

Deviled eggs? I'm making them tomorrow, it's something that has to be done for Easter. Usually I color them, but this year I just ran out of time, so they will be plain white.

I usually boil the eggs, cut them in half and then put the whites into Easter Egg dye, making them yellow, blue, pink, green, very colorful on a plate!

Happy Easter to you too Brad! A new job is always a nervewracking and exciting possibility - can you tell us what job you are applying for? I have had the same job (which I love) for 29 years and I got it by just walking in off the street and applying for it.
Devilled eggs are on the menu for Easter appies tommorow. My 87 year-old Dad loves them, but would probably have a heart attack if I dyed them a colour. When I wa about 15, and my mom was away, I thought it would be fun to put blue food colouring in the rice that I was making for dinner. Dad had a fit and left the table. Lesson learned...

I am applying for a sales associate (they do a little of everything) at our one local Dollar General (there's two downtown, along with a Family Dollar and a Dollar Tree). Still no word yet, but really hoping I do get to work there.

I was wondering if I could dye them after the fact (boil, peel, dye) I forgot that you could and I really wanted colored deviled eggs for BeauLily.

Cathy, as long as you use food safe dyes, it's fine. It's no different than consuming pink frosting on a birthday cake, or red velvet cake or, for that matter, Kool Aid.

There's next year, you know...

Brad, I've often thought you could do red, white and blue eggs for 4th of July, or shades of green for St. Patrick's Day, maybe autumn colors for Thanksgiving. Oh, and black or purple for Halloween, with orange filling. You could even make them look like eyeballs, with an olive slice, I think, LOL.

Good luck on that job, I think you'd do very well dealing with customers and helping people find what they are looking for, so I've got my fingers crossed for you!

This year Meredith's BF's , sister made the deviled eggs. She is a very "needy" person who requires a lot of attention and stroking...too damn much!...but it was Easter and she really wanted to bring something.

We ate them and smiled and thanked her profusely , she must have asked 25 times if we loved them, of course we said we did ....... but man were they awful....didn't know you could screw up a deviled egg! LOL

Annie, that's exactly what I was thinking! :-). In my one Halloween cookbook, the recipe they give for deviled eggs is to garnish them to make them look like devils lol.

Well, my best friend told me (although he wasn't supposed to but he thought I deserved to know) the news today: I didn't get the job. I feel so disappointed and down, but I'll try again sometime.

I'm sorry to hear that, Brad, but you definitely need to keep trying. I can't tell you how many jobs I DIDN'T get in my life, you just have to apply for the next one.

I always figured that every interview and application was part of the learning process and I got more comfortable each time. When I got the job at the Prosecutor's Office where I finally worked for 35 years, I was told by the employment office that I was "not qualified". So, I marched into the office, gave the receptionist my resume and asked if I could take a typing test, knowing that I had no office experience but could type 120 words a minute. That typing test got me an interview and the interview got me the job, but I had to definitely go the long way around.

Try, try again.

Chase, I didn't know you could screw up devilled eggs either. Now that you have all been so complimentary, be prepared to get devilled eggs at every function she attends, LOL.

Hi Brad. I'm seeing this late but I wanted to wish you a Happy Easter too and tell you I'm sorry about the potential job. Don't let it get you down, jobs are not that easy to come by these days. Many are doing what would be considered entry level jobs, leaving little for those less experienced and even summer students positions.

Please don't get discouraged, and keep on trying. Something will be coming up where you will be the perfect fit if you are patient.

If your friend really wants to help you ask him what you can do better. Ask for an honest evaluation. Was it something on your application? Your answer to a certain question in the interview? Any feedback will help you with future interviews.

Keep in mind and many places get overrun with resumes especially for entry level positions. Don't take it personally. Keep applying and keep interviewing. Learn from each experience. I have found that every time I didn't get a job I really wanted, later on I was happy I didn't because something better came along.

My friend and I were talking yesterday and we think it was something I did on the online assessment test. Lesson learned to say the least.

It's been a very long day here. Dad's up in the hospital for overnight observation. They think he's dehydrated or experincing side effects from some of his medicines (allergy or blood pressure-I forget which, and I only got 6 hours of sleep (3-9), so forgive me if I sound a little out of sorts. He has a stress test tomorrow morning, and hopefully getting out tomorrow afternoon. He's in good spirits though.

I'm remaining optimistic about better job oppertunities in the future. It's very difficult, but somehow I always manage to make it through. It's hard to smile in the face of adversity, but that's been the last 10 years of my life. But enough about that. Sorry if I sound so depressed, but it feels like my limits are being tested lately.

And yes, my best friend is like a brother to me and one of the very few people I trust completely in this crazy world. We don't see each other very often, once a month if we're lucky. He's very protective of me (for good reasons) and he was born with an outrageously extreme sense of humor. You know what they say: laughter is the best medicine.

Oh those on line assessments. My take on them is not to over think the questions. I took one recently that asked questions like.......how often do you come to work under the influence of crack cocaine? How often to you physically attack your coworkers if they make you mad? Stuff like that. edited to add: I was trying to make the point is sometimes those tests ask crazy questions. Don't get hung up on them.

Brad, just a thought, but with your writing and organizational skills you might try looking for a job with a local newspaper, publisher, or organization that's in need of PR assistance. Also might try local colleges and libraries in need of assistants...

Dad came home yesterday. He has a pinched nerve in his back. He's on medicine for it and he's back to work today. Tomorrow is a local festival downtown (food and craft vendors, a quilt show and more), that I go to with mum each year. We also installed our new arbor today :-). Now, just to decide on what to grow on it (I know I don't want grapes. The deer would eat those, besides it's one more suited for flowering vines like roses or honeysuckle (which I think I'll grow at least one of those on it).
