They are the children of my mate and as much a part of the family as the children of my womb. I believe that settles that, LOL, at least for me.

Unless you never have anything to do with them, why would you not?

I have a "practice grand child". LOL, it's my girl friends little girl. Her grand parents (all four of them) live in Germany. I am her granny (Omi in German) her in Oklahoma. She gets the same as my other grand children.

Like I said in my post, I don't have any step grandchildren, but it seems to me that not treating everyone equally would be asking for trouble. LOL

We have 10 grandchildren, 8 are his and the other 2 are mine. I do more for mine, but only because we're the only grandparents they have, my DD is an only child so little family for gift giving, and we're around them more so we buy at times other than Christmas and birthdays for them. If we were around the others as much I'm sure we'd buy more for them during the year too.

We do the same for all of them. They are all family. Wouldn't even think of doing it any other way.

i do same amount for all grandkids but i had extra kidds this year because my son gf has 2 girls so i spent $5.00 on them but the parents dont know what i spend on the kids so they dont mind i have 14 grandkids i i got all the kids a gift and spent just under 100.00

Dad, with three boys 19 - 14, remarried about 60 years ago, and we got a ready-made sister out of that deal who was just on the edge of teendom.

Sis has said a number of times over the years that Dad never treated her any different than he did the boys ... which she appreciated.

DH has 2 sons and 3 grandsons...his grandsons are treated exactly the same as my 2 grandsons (and when my son was alive, he was treated the same as DH's sons are treated).

We treated them the same and I loved them the same.

Let's see, I have an adopted nephew, and a niece and nephew who were foster kids with my sister. Of course I spent the same on all of them, always. It would never have occurred to me NOT to.

The reason I asked is that I know of a woman who goes overboard with gifts for her grandchildren, but gives next to nothing to her step grandchildren. Can you even imagine how this must make the step grandchildren feel? Then she wonders why her daughter-in-law can't stand her. LOL

Gotta say, mammie, I'm with redcurls on that one. I'm not surprised her DIL can't stand her, hearing this I can't either.

So far, I have step-grandkids (8 of them plus one step-greatgranddaughter) but although I think of their parents as step-kids (all well into adulthood when Gary and I married), I've never thought of the kids as steps. They are my grandchildren. Sometimes I tell Gary that I married him for the grandchildren :-) It took a little while (we've been married just over 2 1/2 years) but all but the oldest one call me Grandma now.

My son and daughter in law will present us with my first contribution to the grandchild pool in July. I'm sure there will be something special about holding my child's baby in my arms, but they are all my grandchildren and I love them all. I wouldn't dream of treating them differently.

I can't imagine how she justifies the hurt she causes, but it doesn't seem to bother her. She volunteered the information and I couldn't believe my ears.
