Yes, the weather in WI changed very suddenly right at the start of October. We'll have several nights of freezing temps this week, too. Our leaves are just at the peak of color and brightness -- gorgeous reds, oranges and yellows. When we drive south from our house we go up and over a ridge and the winding road combined with the brilliantly colored trees is amazing. I'd love it even more if it didn't mean that old man winter was on his way!

It was 90 degrees here in SE Georgia yesterday. And it's only going down into the 70s at night. We had some cooler weather a couple weeks ago, but it went away. I really hope the cooler weather shows up again soon.

Yep, the weather here in the Northeast (lower Dutchess County, NY) is changing. I love the fall. I'd be happy if it was cool, overcast and drizzly 24/7 (well, maybe not 24/7, but close). DH jokes and says I'd be right at home in the PNW.

It was in the 80s here yesterday and humid as all get-out. Today I think we're not expected to get above 60, and it's raining. Again. This has been the wettest September-October period we've seen in ages, and I'm ready for some sunshine again!

We've fluctuated between high 70's during the day to low 60's. Nights get chilly and we've lit the wood stove most nights now. A couple weeks ago it was in the 90's during the day. So far no rain (thank goodness!!!) but we've got plenty of fog in the mornings.

It's funny to see people bundled up on my way to work, then on the drive home, see people in shorts.

Mrsmarv...trust me, the PNW non-sun seasons are nothing to love. We don't get crisp fall leaves, we get soggy, boggy leaves. :

Here in Houston, we've had 100% (yes one hundred percent) humidity over the past few days. Cold front with major RAIN is JUST about to hit. It's supposed to be down to the 50s tonight and in the 60s tomorrow.

I don't mind the rain while I'm here at work. But I'm hoping for no precipitation over the weekend. I've got outdoor plans!

Folkvictorian, I envy your fall foliage. We used to love going home to northern Indiana in October. Such a pretty time of year!

Here in Baton Rouge we're having the same miserable heat & humidity as Jen and Lowspark. October is typically our driest month of the year, but so far I've recorded 8" in my rain gauge. More on the way this weekend for the big LSU/FL game.

It was 80 when I woke up this morning and it is now 66 and raining. I'm loving the rain after so many months without even seeing a drop. So nice and green around here now.

It's supposed to get in the 50's overnight. So looking forward to it. I may take my little girl to the play ground tomorrow for the first time in her short life since she won't be able to burn herself on the equipment with the cooler weather.

Nah, it is still 70s here, a wee bit chilly at night. We had an extraordinary summer only a few hot and humid days, cool nights and we didnt even use the AC. I think it will remain in the 70s at least this week.Winter will come soon enough!

It's not invigorating where I am (NH), it's mostly wet and gray with a few sunny days. We're in the 50s-60s during the day and high 30s-low 40s at night. It's driving us berserk because we're frantically trying to finish painting the porch but we've been stymied by bad weather all summer and the fact that DH has this minor detail called a J-O-B. He's taking this coming week off from work (he has to schedule this kind of thing a few months in advance, he can't just say "hey, forecast for next week looks good, I'm taking off so I can work on the house!") so we are just praying madly for decent weather. Didn't work in June, we were working on structural issues and flooring in mid-40s and pouring rain most of the week. Can't exactly paint in pouring rain! Wainscot and trim are being delivered Tuesday (lumberyard is closed Monday) and if the rain's not blowing we might be able to paint it on the porch.

I doubt we'll get really good foliage this year, the summer was just too chilly and we're not getting the warm days and cold nights that make for best color. Sucks for those who rely on tourist dollars, but good for us who actually live around here and get caught up in leaf-peeper traffic (and people who drive AT the scenery instead of paying attention to the road).

mrsmarv, it's been overcast, cool, misty and rainy all week and it feels great! I'm one of those that likes this kind of weather also. It's supposed to snow in our panhandle tonight.

Jen, we had that big blob of rain you got. We received over 2 inches yesterday, it finally moved out today.

I have my sweatshirt on for the first time this season. Now I need to find all my jammy bottoms that I wear at home all day. lol

Well, I live in Northwest IN and we have had a miserable day and night of rain and it's chilly too, 50's. I hate umbrellas, feeling chilly, sweats from now on and dreary days. I need to get out of HERE NOW! Oh come on, complain about your heat, go ahead...make me jealous!

It's been warm here today, in the 80s, but beautiful, with a soft breeze. Indian summer. This past week was perfect: cool, pleasant, and sunny during the day, cold enough at night to use a quilt.

Cold? Here in the south (Tennessee), we're still warm. It was 85 or better today. We are having cooler nights and mornings though. Our leaves are starting to turn, but I don't want them falling - I love looking at the beautiful colors. We are planning a long drive this weekend out in a lovely country area full of foliage.

We usually have mild winters here, and that is just fine with me!

We had the same cool weather that several others in the South got but then it went to unseasonably warm wet weather for Oct. This is usually our driest month and instead we are getting a lot of rain. I am still swimming every day . It is cool but feels great since the sun is so hot. We haven't gotten the storms yet tonight but we are in the lightening phase. It will rain , they say for several days and then get cooler again. We have had dry dry dry again for 3 years so I am glad of the rain. But I have lots of painting , like johnmari so I need dry too !

I'll take what I can get though. c

I woke up to snow this morning. (Invigorating and beautiful are not the words I am thinking of right now.)

Well, our highs are supposed to drop from 91 to about 89 next week so I guess that's our invigorating cold weather for the fall...it's a bit of a different system here in subtropical Florida!

However the air is definitely drier so the humidity is noticeably less of an issue. I'm eagerly waiting for winter which is about as close to perfect weather as it is possible to have. Sunny warm blue sky days in the 70s, nights in the 60s, ahhhhh. It's coming, I know it is.

Oakley, in my area of TN, we do get some cold, just not real cold, and not for real long. We may get a few dustings of snow, but it's been years since we got a real snowfall (again, that is okay with me!). If you go up into the mountains, it is cooler there, and more snow. Our winters seem so much milder and shorter than when I was a child. Crazy changes in the weather!

Yesterday I had shorts on. LOL Today the storm front passed through and it is cooler and wet. I think last year we only used the fireplace a couple of times.

We have snow, but it's too warm for it to stay!!! I do love fall in MN!!

I am pleased to report when I woke up this morning to go to the store, we had a hard freeze because there was a solid sheet of ice on my windshield! It was so thick not even the ice scraper could get it all off.

Since we live in the country it always freezes here when it doesn't in the city. Love it! We have a fire going right now. And when I got out of the car at the store, the smell of all the lit fireplaces in the housing addition was wonderful!

However...I guess it's time to say goodbye to my lovely garden. :(

We had a wonderful September, but now October has been much cooler and misty/rainy/grey. I actually don't mind that, but there was frost last night and tonight it is there, down at 33° right now (12:30 AM), and that is AWFUL.

Anything below forty degrees is cold to me. I can't wait to get out of the Chicago area and away from winter!

Oh honey, no....anything below *70* degrees is cold! Below 60 is what my husband and I refer to as 'death cold'. If it gets below 40 we start discussing a move to the Virgin Islands strictly for survival's sake :).

It holds true for water temp too. My perfect water temperature is when you slide off the side of the boat or stroll off the beach and you can't tell when you've actually hit the water. That's perfect temperature. About 82-85 degrees. Below 80 degree water temp we start getting a bit chilly. Below 78 degree water temp we look for floating ice in the water.

Oakley, all I can say is thank goodness for the Bowlegs micro climate! We won't get a killing frost here until the end of the month, and some years (like last year) I still have mums and roses blooming into December. The absolute chilliest here the last few days was 39 - 40; no frost, certainly no ice. Still, like you, we have a fire going at night to chase the chill. To me, the smell of damp leaves and wood smoke *is* fall air, even if most of the trees are only barely turning yellow. (except for Sumac, which is fire engine red)

I put quite a few of my tender plants in the conservatory, but I still have tomatoes, geraniums, potted cannas and sweet potato vines out. Looks like it's going to warm back up and stay that way for at least another week, so everything is going right back outside.
