I just take two slices of bread, butter both slices, add some mayo to one slice then pile on the roast beef. You could add finely sliced onion, lettuce and tomato if you want. Or add a slice of your favourite cheese.
I take a Hoagie roll slice it in half, spread some butter on it and toast it in the oven. Take it out and put a slice of provoline cheese on it. Then a take a can of Campbell's AuJus (you can find it where the canned gravy is) and bring it to a boil. When hot I remove from the heat and put in thinly sliced Roast beef from the deli the more rare the better and just let it warm in the Aujus...DO NOT COOK!!! it will get tough...when the roast beef has warmed up I put it on the Hoagie roll and serve with a side of Aujus...this is just a good as any French dip you can get in a restaurant!! YUMMY!!
Not matter if it's hot or cold, what kind of bread you use, what other condiments, it's not a GOOD roast beef sandwich until you add the horseradish. Ground, or creamy horseradish sauce, or spreadable horseradish cheese, or the sliced deli horseradish cheese--horseradish in some form is absolutely essential!
I agree with the horseradish. I grew up in Buffalo where the two big local foods are Anchior Bar hot wings and Beef on Weck sandwiches. A "Weck" is kimmelweck roll (white roll topped with salt and caraway seeds). Add au jus gravy, sliced roast beef, horseradish sauce and some dill pickles on the side.Heaven you can pick up with two hands.
Thanks will try them all.The horseradish seems to be the starting point.I love roastbeef in a cold cut the rest of the coldcuts don;t have any taste to me.Getting old I guess and loseing my taste.Happy New Year.
I love a good roast beef sandwich, but I do NOT like horseradish!
Good bread (rosemary bread is great for these sandwiches), mayonnaise, and Gulden's mustard, with lots and lots of really thinly sliced roast beef. YUM!
Back in the 50's drug stores that had fountain service served "chipped beef" sandwiches. They were on a bun and the meat was similar to Arbys, but 10 times better.
I surely would like to find that type of sandwich somewhere, or just find similar meat.
Heres mine toast bun first,Whenever I make beef I put kikomens sauce on it while its cooking, slow cooking..When done I put lots mayo on bun beef, tomato ,lettace mmmmmmmm and eat!!!!!
Hey, I thought I was creative when I put horseradish (for the first time) on my sandwich last month. Albeit in the past year it was my first time trying the stuff and will even eat from the jar with a spoon. So yeah, you got my vote with the horseradish. I made a spread with mayo, mustard and horseradish.
