What's for Dinner ... Friday?

Can you believe another week is ending? Crazy day here as it was overcast with forecast of getting up to over 50. Next thing I knew, it was snowing like crazy.....ended up with at least an inch and a half. Then a few hours later, it was entirely gone.

My meal consisted of pork/gravy over mashed potatoes. Was going to add a steamed vegetable to that but had a craving for mac n cheese. Guess which one won out? :*)

So what's going to be served at your place?

Paw Paw Patch for the second time this week.

They are locally owned and serve the bestest food.

Today I had grilled chopped steak and onion, creamed corn, blackeye peas!

Cheryl and I have been gone most of the day. We had a coupon for breakfast at Bob Evan's so we each got the Farmer's special I think it is called. Home fries, scrambled eggs, bacon, and I had french toast. Iced tea to drink. So we did not have lunch as that was enough for us two meals. No cooking again for me this evening. I had a peanut butter sandwich, a banana and a big glass of milk.

Busy day today (really, about the last 10 or so days) and we're doing our easy fall back dinner. DH is outside roasting potatoes and will do a quick steak on the grill, I'm going to just steam some asparagus and rinse some blueberries for some antioxidants... I think I'll do a nicer dinner at some point this weekend, I somehow have a sale ham in each of two refrigerators, use by dates on both first week in June. One I'll freeze, the other I'll cook. We'll probably be having ham with au gratin potatoes, ham and bean soup, ham and eggs - all next week ;)

Its confusing because it goes against what has been the accepted common knowledge since perhaps the early 1800's. The farmers growing them and calling them yams, are wrong. The grocers selling them and calling them yams, are wrong. The companies canning them and labeling them as yams, are wrong. The people who first introduced them to the United States called them yams, perhaps to distinguish them from the different variety of sweet potatoes that were already on the market, they were wrong too. Even some sites on the web that try to explain the difference with helpful images like this one: http://www.frugallivingnw.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/yams-sweet-potatoes-is-there-a-difference-2.jpg are wrong. (hint they are all sweet potatoes, despite their labels) So it is not at all surprising that what I learned at a young age from my mother and grandmother, and which was continually re-enforced every Thanksgiving or every time I visited a grocery store, is wrong. I have never eaten a true yam in my life, and seeing some of the pictures of what a true yam look like, I probably never will. Does it harm me in any way if other people choose to call some varieties of sweet potatoes "yams", no. It merely bothers the pedantic part of me a little when someone asserts something to be a fact, when they are in fact wrong.

Just made some Caesar salad dressing and topped the salad with blackened salmon for DH. I was too tired to eat myself. Maybe in a little bit. Returned home from a golfing trip with the ladies….3 days of golf and late nights. Took one day off except for Mexican train last night and played golf today. Looking forward to a quiet weekend.

Our landlords must have made a stop in Ohio Shirley! That happens to us regularly! LOL Hubby has the urge for a ham, so we bought one today and will have that with some potatoes and green beans tomorrow. I made a pasta salad and my Asian coleslaw.

No dinner, just munching. We had some salads with some cold cuts. A couple of friends are coming over later, and we'll have dessert with tea or coffee.

Subway !!!! Exciting Friday night here in TN !!!! LOL At least the weather's much warmer today and the sun's shining !! Life is good !!!!

Some friends are coming over in a little while. I've made some hot cheddar crisps, homemade herb dressing for raw veggies, stuffed mushrooms for 'Happy Hour ', tomato bisque, and grilled chicken tacos. The salsa is made from jicama, chopped tomatoes, red onions, garlic, jalepeno, cilantro, and lime juice. It is sooooo flavorful and different. I'll be using soft flour tortillias that I'll warm on the grill. I'll have chopped lettuce and sour cream on the side.

It's nice enough to sit outside for drinks, which will be nice.

Rhizo, that all sounds so GOOD! Wish I were having that. Instead it will be leftover shepherd's pie and maybe a salad if I feel like making it.

Glenda: Sounds like a good restaurant to go to. Especially after I read what the young man did there. Yes, there are good people in the world.

Sue: Substitute coffee for the tea and add a bowl of oatmeal, and a small steak. Then you would have the meal I had once when I spent the night at a friends house once. Her family were farmers. I couldn't believe all that food at one meal.

Jasdip: I like that kind of meal. Sometimes I put the cold cuts right on top of the salad.

Pianolady: My favorite Subway was the roastbeef on whole wheat. Enjoy.

Rhizo: I'd have to leave off the sour cream but surely would like to try the rest. Sounds like a fun evening.

Sjerin: If you go to eat Rhizo's meal, send me your shepherd's pie. Sounds so good.

I heated up some left over pasta from a few nights back, and ate two many brownie cookies..
Oh am drinking coffee..

Guys were at a baseball game up North..

I got an oil change after work today because I'm driving to NC for a conference next week. It was taking a while so I walked over to the neighboring grocery store.

They had Sea Bass on sale for $9.99 lb so I bought a piece, and broiled it with a remoulade sauce, made a rice pilaf, and steamed asparagus, and opened a fairly good Italian pinot grigio.

I really love the remoulade sauce, I think I could slather it on a paperback book, and broil it and it would be pretty tasty, but on a nice piece of fish, it turns out downright delicious.
