Wanted: T&T German Chocolate Cake Recipe

dgkritch

I made the Coconut Pecan Frosting (I'm pretty sure someone here posted it, but I didn't write it down....whoever you are, please take credit so I can add to my recipe!! It's awesome).

I wasn't happy with the cake recipe I pulled off the 'net.

I should have known better and come here first.

So, does anyone have a basic german chocolate cake recipe?

The frosting is good enough to just eat with a spoon, but I really would like to try it on a great cake!

TIA,

Deanna

BTW, here's the frosting I'm talking (typing??) about...

Coconut Pecan Filling & Frosting

1 can (12-oz.) evaporated milk

3/4 c. agave nectar (OR 1-1/2 c. sugar)

3/4 c. butter (1-1/2 sticks)

4 egg yolks, slightly beaten

1-1/2 t. vanilla

2-2/3 c. UNsweetened coconut

1-1/2 c. chopped pecans

STIR milk, agave nectar, butter, egg yolks, and vanilla in large saucepan. Stirring constantly, cook on medium heat until it slightly thickens and is light golden brown (12-20 minutes). Remove from heat.

STIR in unsweetened coconut and pecans. Cool to room temperature and of spreading consistency.

Makes about 4-1/2 cups (LOTS!)

I just looked closer and noticed the reference to agave nectar...is this from grainlady????
