Scrubbies are all the rage here--go figure--and yes, they are crocheted. Maybe they are popular because it's love bug season and they are good for getting love bugs off of your car without scratching the paint.

I've never peeled an asparagus in my life. Why would you? They're fine just as they are.

Laceyvail, when asparagus is very slender, think skinny pencil, itis tender on the outside, but if it is a bit chunky, more than a number 2 pencil, the outer skin can become woody. But the inner flesh is tender and sweet once you peel it off. I actually perfer to buy the fat ones and peel them.

What a fun surprise, and just in time for asparagus season. The scrubbies look cute, too.

Mmmm, all my asparagus is only minutes old when I cook it. I guess that's why it never needs to be peeled.

Peppi, love bugs are little black bugs, male and females mate and stay attached to each other and fly away. They rest in the grassy areas along side roadsides and when the weather is dry the bugs multiply very fast. The swarms can be so thick that driving just a few feet will ensure a windshield that is completely covered with bugs and needs to be cleaned.Check out thislink below

I remember this car wash down in Florida years ago that had a sign up that said "Lovebugs, you squash them, we'll wash them." Thought it was cute.
Regarding peeling asparagus, it's really not nessasary. What did you think of it Lowspark?

I agree with you all, it's not necessary but how many of you have an asparagus peeler like May and Annie! LOL

OK, I did try to peel the asparagus, but wasn't very successful, mainly I think, because they were very very thin stalks! So I gave up pretty quickly. However, I can see using this when the stalks are thick so I'll try again next time the thick stalks are what is available. It was fun trying though!! And don't I feel like a member of the elite for having my own asparagus peeler!!

The marmalade is yum-alicious, thanks Cathy!! I'll be trying Cathy's salt next week. One of the benefits of cooking for the seder is tons of leftovers. Between those & matzo pizza, I don't plan on doing any major cooking for the rest of the week.

Oh, and we get love bugs here too but no where near as many as I remember getting when I was young. What killed em, fire ants? (Fire ants have seriously reduced the population of species, such as the beloved horny toad here in Texas.)

I do! I Do - have an asparagus peeler, it wasn't even a gift. I bought it for myself at Wm Sonoma. I use it also! My family thinks I'm nuts! I think Sara Moulton first got me hooked on peeling asparagus on her early Cooking Live FN show.
It is especially effective for the thicker stalks that have the tougher skins. although I try to avoid buying those ,sometimes it is that or nothing. I like to "roast" the asparagus on the grill so the thicker stalks - peeled of course - are better. The slender, delicate stalks-no need to peel. It does take practice - and it is not quick.
