Wow, when you tackle something you don't mess around! Absolutely gorgeous!

I took a weaving class (a few) back in the early 70s. I managed a wall hanging and that was it. I have zero patience when it comes to things like that.

natal I am the queen of impatience...that is what I am trying so hard to overcome. One weft at a time. It used to be one step at a time on the trails when I did the ultra-marathons and then one pedal turn at time. If one wanted to put too fine a point on it , they could say I am a slow learner :) So I continue to evolve. I wish you would start weaving again. We could compare notes...I could use a companion. You are very sweet....

nancy it is very soft . That was a requirement. I have several chenille yarns in this. It is mostly cotton.

The jacket will be un-constructed. In other words I am going to weave a 12" wide piece that is long enough that when I cut it in half and drape it over each shoulder it will only need to be sewn down the center back and voila...or at least Ann says ....it will be a jacket ! We'll see...and so will you guys. I hope to start on Tuesday and be done by Thurs. ....now what is wrong with that goal ????? Meditative...quiet....NO....stop....OK...see...this is why I need to learn this lesson...c

I know nothing about weaving but that is gorgeous, I can't believe how much you did so quickly!

I saw in another post that you weaved all day and "ignored" the rest of the world's happenings. I envied you before I saw the fruits of your labor. My envy increased x 10. :o)

cath: what a nice thing to say ! You might want to look in your area and see who is teaching weaving. It is amazing what you can do these days. They even have pre-made warps so you can start weaving in minutes after a few basic instructions.

The scarf is beautiful trail. One minute you are biking across the country and the next you are meditatively weaving!

Last night dh and I went to our dd's symphonic band concert (two "date" nights in one week! woohoo!). It was a beautiful tapestry of music. I learn more about classical music every time I attend. A few pieces were written in 2005 that I found timeless. I had always assumed the classics meant written centuries ago...

But I digress...one of dd's favorite professors - Rowen Schussheim-Andersonis - is a wonderful textile artist and weaver. Just wanted to share her link. We have seen some of her exhibitions and they are amazing.

dee: THANK YOU for sharing her work. Wow...the tapestries are amazing. And that loom...whew...that would take weeks to warp. Those are made by LeClerc...they are the only people who make looms that large. Unless it is a handmade one that she designed and had built. I would love to know if your DD could ask her. I will be on the lookout for her work.

That is so cool. I am starting my first-ever pottery class tomorrow night. It's something I have wanted to do for years and just kept putting it off. Hope I am as successful at my creative venture as you are!

I just sent dd an email. Next time I'm on campus, I'm going to see if I can get a tour of Rowen's studio - hopefully she houses the loom there.

The closest I have gotten to looming is those pot holder loom kits from when I was a kid!

Really beautiful.... organic and artistic, just yummy, yummy! I love the experience of learning something new at this time in my life. Unlike my younger self, now I can stick with it even if I'm not getting it at first. Exactly as you say trailrunner, one step at a time, one stitch at a time. That's my mantra too. Just do the next step, just do the next step...

Dee,,,you are killing me !! I have ONE of those in my drawer now that I made Momma...I use it all the time. Thank you for asking your DD and may I ask where is your DD in school and where is the artist ??? I didn't read where she is located..to busy looking at the art.

alisande and bestyears you are both so kind. It is nice and I have gotten a lot of compliments on it. I have to hem stitch the beginning end ,,ha...sound like I know what I am talking about. and get the beads and maybe the bells. Speaking of wall hangings, I wonder if macrame will come back into style. Did you do those? Some of them were really nice!

I did about 5 minutes worth of macrame in Girl Scouts LOL. There is so much handweaving going on out there that I wouldn't be surprised. Everyone is getting into the DIY of all things since it is so rewarding and also more cost effective and perhaps because people are staying closer to home , with money being tighter. c

Over the months and years on this forum, you can't help but form impressions of the people you meet here. For example, I think of My3dogs as this incredibly creative, do-it-yourself nurturer. When I think of Teacats, I picture a little creative dynamo with strong English roots. But you, Trailrunner, continually defy any categorization. You decorate wonderfully. You seem like the ultimate athlete. You tend towards the spare in your life, it seems. Didn't you say recently that you'd made a conscious decision to get rid of your tv(s)? And now you decide to take up weaving and immediately turn out a lovely shawl! You continually amaze me . . . in a good way!

I think the clinical DX is OCD :) As you probably have heard me say in other posts...I have a lot of baggage in my life. I am always seeking ways to look at it and then let it go. I have a hard time with guilt and a feeling of low self-esteem.I get depressed and can't get out of the house some days. I am not afraid to say so as I think it may help others who feel the same way.

I also think I have lots of gifts to give ... to myself and others. I take each day and try to bring something to myself and my family and others around me. I succeed some days and others...not so much.

DH and I got rid of the TV after Katrina was over. When our family moved here from New Orleans we got cable for them. When they left we decided to stop it all . Then the set went. We stopped the newspaper in May of this year. Slowly but surely we have tried to reduce the "noise". I still have the computer and we have one cell phone...no land line and no texting etc. Just our choice and our attempt to limit the encroaching world. Heads in the sand we may be ...so be it.

I always feel a connection to you and your posts. I think we have a lot in common ...different paths but I believe they cross. Thank you for your note. c

well, just don't get rid of your computer, trailrunner! I have learned from you, that's for sure.
