I bet my bottom dollar that they didnt squeeze hard enough and need another view. Its common with screenings to need more views and to get that message. Until this year I have had diagnostic mammograms because of BC 12yrs ago, and sometimes they don't get a good film so they bring me back and do another one.and everything has been fine. With a diagnostic you wait there until the radiologist reads it. with a screening they read it later and call you back if necessary. They just need to see if they can compress those dense areas to see in them. as it has been explained to me. relax have some wine. I cant tell you how many women have called me in a panic because they or a friend or dd have had a call back and its been fine or sometimes a benign cyst they find. you have more chances of it being normal than not. go get that wine now.

I had a callback last year, too. The new digital technology is so sensitive that it picks up all sorts of things not seen in the past. In my case, I went for the retake and the tech came back and asked if I might have a mole there. Sure enough, I did. So they covered it, took yet a third round of pics and all was fine.

I hadn't had one done for quite a while so had no idea that the technology had changed and moles needed to be covered. Of course, that wasn't my job, either! Ex-pen-sive ¡size>

Squirrelheaven, they covered the mole with a radiopaque marker (one that would show up on the x-ray as a white/clear dot), so that, when comparing your first x-ray with the second, the radiologist could easily tell if the mole was the spot in question. The marker would show up at that identical site. It's a very common way to tell.

Golddust, no matter how much you're sure that the "spots" are ok, it still scares the begeebers out of us until we find out for sure. I'm sorry that you have to go through this. I'm sorry that anyone has to, but mammography is still the best second line of defense for us women, the first being regular monthly self-checks. When I was working as an x-ray tech, I did hundreds of mamms. The real bottom line is that the radiologist would rather find out what that questionable spot is for sure, than write it off until next year's mamm. Medicine isn't perfect yet and it's great to have those diligent medical people to not let a questionable spot slide by them.

Thanks everyone! I went car shopping with DD today and had a ball. Tomorrow she is picking me up in her new (well, 2007) Prius to escort me to the Dr. What an adventure. We went to Placerville from Grass Valley on old Hwy 49, the whole way. Winding around 10 MPH turns up and over mountains but we got a great deal (who else is crazy enough to travel 2 hours on roads like that to save couple thousand dollars).

I'm not going to borrow trouble but if it *is* something, better to catch it tomorrow than next month. Appointment with Radiology at 9:20, then a pap at 12:30. Hopefully, today's test turns out perfect!

Good luck, Golddust. As you know, the waiting is such a bad part of this; our imaginations run wild. Ever since my BC scare six years ago, which was resolved by an ultrasound and benign cyst removal by my wonderful surgeon, I've followed every mammo with an US. Just a little extra care, just to be sure. Thank God for those techs and doctors who go the additional mile to care for you!

I would turn this into an opportunity to be kind to myself - eating comfort food, stopping for ice cream, strolling by a bakery, maybe a new pair of shoes - LOL!

Golddust, the chances that all is well are great, so I hope you won't worry too much. I know it's hard not to think about "what if", but you seem to have a terrific, positive outlook about everything, and I know that will serve you well in this instance too.

Golddust - same thing happened to me last year when I got called back for an ultrasound for a closer look. Within a few minutes they said everything was fine, but the waiting was awful. Looking forward to hearing good news.

Hope everything works out for the best! I am sitting here at home waiting for the results of a biopsy that was done yesterday, so believe me I know what you are going through! I had my routine mammogram last of August, got the call for a Diagnostic and got an appnt. yesterday. Did the exam, ultra sound, and "cone"? biopsy yesterday (They were really so good to work me in). Now I will hear something this afternoon or tomorrow afternoon. Of course, I am having a hard time getting anything around the house done! Anyway, good luck to you and if I do have a problem, hopefully it will be small.

OK, I just got the results of my biopsy. The nurse said it was benign, but it was a Sclerotic Papilloma and needs to be removed. I have an appnt. with the surgeon Sept.16th for a consult. Oh Carolyn! No, I've never heard of it but *I* am fine! I went in, they took some (painful) images. One density spot was near my chest wall, so 'ouch'. Turned out to be swollen lymph glands that pressed out. Cooperbailey, you win the cake this time.

My internet has been down all day or I would have checked in much sooner. Carolyn, an old girlfriend was in the breast imaging center and she was having cysts removed. I swear, being a female is complicated.

Thanks for the prayers and positive thoughts. I must have really felt them. I was amazed at how calm I was. I didn't freak out at all. I just kept thinking, if it is something, better deal with it today than in 6 months.

Still have to get a colonoscopy and my blood work. I'm turning 55 in November so I'm getting my 55,000 service. LOL!

Carolyn, hang in there and know you aren't alone. My hubby had what we thought was a swollen gland; turns out it's a mass. After 2 weeks, 2 needle biopsies, cancer diagnosis came in Monday. Secondary tumor they think, have to find original one. He had a PET scan 2 days ago, the waiting is hell.

I'm doing better today. I've done research and am comfortable with where I picked for him to be treated. That was very hard to do; and was a huge stress. We don't want to waste time, nor do we want just anyone treating him for this. We'll discuss a biopsy with a department head at a very good hospital where they have their own pathology. We're not waiting around for results to get sent out.

Oh, roselvr! (((hugs))). Do they know what kind of cancer it is yet? Are you going with an oncologist? I assume you are. Cancer research has come a long ways. So many people survive cancer today. I just know your DH will be one. Doesn't mean it doesn't scare the heck out of you.

Where is his mass? Let us know! Maybe you could start a new thread? I am so sorry.
