What are you working on Oct 2010!

I thought I would give the board a boost and ask what everyone is working on.

I have a sweater, socks and a chemo cap on the needles right now. How about you?

Right now I have a string market bag on my needles and two more to knit. After that I am going to knit a shawl for my daughter-in-law.

Hey, I searched on 'dryer lint' and this thread came up. Question, I collect my dryer lint in a bag in my laundry room and it's now full. Can I put that in my pile? Is it a green or brown? And I'm assuming dryer sheets cannot go in? Lots of good tips here, the old protein powder, lobster carcasses an other things. I have 3 piles which are now mostly wood chips from last years trimmings and weeds and soon will have deadheaded roses from my garden. Luckily we finally got some needed rain an I am going to stir up the piles this afternoon.

Olive harvest time!! Bagful of buggy olives, branch of bad fresh dates from the tree (how long will it take for all those pits to break down?), regular UCG's peels, corn, veggie soup leavings, all covered with shredded office paper. Dug up the trenched half finished stuff from Spring - it was dark brown and I found (1) worm. For planting in construction rubble, I'm pretty pleased. Shoveled it all out to hill for taters, tomorrow I'll re-fill it with the half finished new pile, and leave it again till Spring. Lasagne beds worked very well, ready to plant winter veggies. *** Was gone to the States for two weeks and DGF emailed me that although she had planned on not composting anything while I was gone, she became unhappy at throwing stuff out, and began thinking of all that compost going to waste! She even got a bigger sink-side container and faithfully saved kitchen leavings. My first thought was "oh, that's my gal!" and my nearly simultaneous thought was "aha! another victim gets the bug!" I bought her special treats for this very special way to say I love you.

Annie, I'm sure the wedding was a huge hit, especially the hab gold cheescakes! Meanshile, I FINALLY canned this year! Woo hoo! Better yet, I spread the canning virus---made 8 half-pints of strawberry jam with a friend who'd never canned before. Bought the strawberries from the farmer same day, and boy did it turn out well. The set is a little soft (we used a recipe from the Bernardin book that calls for cooking up whole apples w/ the pith of a lemon rather than using commercial pectin or going for the long boil), but it's still quite spreadable and VERY yummy. I definitely made a new canning convert. And I'm excited that I'll have a canning buddy nearby for those marathon sessions of tomato or peach peeling! I've had a CRAZY spring work-wise, on the road a lot, didn't even start any tomato seedlings (for each of the past 10 years I've started at least a hundred). But I bought some and was kindly given some and FINALLY got the last of them into the ground, so hopefully there will be some tomato canning, even though some of the harvest will be late. It felt so good to spend all of yesterday in the garden and the canning kitchen! Z

Home and good, except for feeling the weather! Thanks Moni. Did you make it home ok from your bike ride? I just came back from the yarn shop with needles, a pattern for a scarf and yarn! Like I needed more yarn, but whats a girl to do?!

I am working on a sweater also and a gift for my cousin's daughter's baby due around Christmas. I cannot wait finally a little one to knit and sew for.

Hi Lizzie2. Babies sure are fun to knit for!

I did a stocking hat for my grandson Friday night. It's all finished! I worked on the pair of socks a little today, but my hands hurt too much to keep working with the small needles.

Just starting a sweater. Been busy quilting. Of course there are always mitts on my #5's.

Been working on this since August and hope to finish it before Xmas. It is fun, but I'm NOT looking forward to weaving in all those ends. this is my first crochet chart work and I'm so glad DH could enlarge the chart for me or I'd be going blind by now! ;-) It is a Mary Maxim kit.

Thanks for showing us the back side of the project. I always like to see the reverse side of projects because it shows the actual work involved.

This looks great, I know what you mean about the loose ends. I sometimes weave mine in as I go so I won't be faced with all that work at once. My arthritis no longer allows me to crochet but thankfully I can still knit.

Babka! That's beautiful! Thank you for the pictures. I know what you mean about the ends. In crochet, I usually work over the ends, then trim them. In knit, it's much harder to do that, but I try to weave most of them in as I go with a needle.

Tami....who's glad to see some activity on the knitting board!

I started out working over the loose ends, but then I changed my mind. I wanted the reverse side to look just like the front side, so I chose to weave the individual colors back on themselves so they wouldn't show through the stitches. Anal, I guess.
