3 disasters in 3 weeks

I need help. I think I have a "chemistry" problem, but am not quite sure.

Two weeks ago I made the following chocolate cake TWICE. Twice it ran over in my oven and actually caught on FIRE! This is the same recipe I have used successfully for over 20 years and never had a problem with it. It is the recipe I usually give out when someone asks for my best chocolate cake recipe.

BASIC CHOCOLATE CAKE

1/2 cup butter or margarine
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1-1/2 tsp. vanilla
3 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted & cooled
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup sour cream
1 cup boiling water (may use leftover coffee)
Milk chocolate icing (recipe follows)

Beat butter and sugar together in large mixing bowl; add eggs; beat until light and fluffy. Beat in vanilla and chocolate. Sift together dry ingredients; add alternately with sour cream to butter mixture, beating well after each addition. Add boiling water (batter will be very thin). Pour into 2 greased and floured 9-inch layer cake pans. Bake in preheated 350ð F. oven 35 minutes or until cake tests done. Cool in pan on wire racks 10 minutes. Turn out onto racks; cool completely. Fill and frost as desired. Yield: 12 servings.

So this morning I attempted, yet again, to bake a chocolate cake. Thinking it was my recipe, I used Hershey's Black Magic Cake (which I have also made hundreds of times and never had a problem). It also ran over in my oven and flopped.

The only ingredients that I believe would be causing this problem are either the flour, baking powder, or baking soda.

Any ideas?
