I watched only a little bit of the pre-show and about an hour of the real show (wanted to get over to "Downton Abbey" even tho I was Tivo'ing it, too)

But I also thought Kate Winslet's dress was a "miss."

I did love Helen Mirren's dress -- deep V-neck going into a full skirt of what looked to me as a ruffly flowery thing. And a little bling at the waistline.

I'll link to a pic of Helen Mirren (and one of Meryl Streep -- they're in a "fashion faceoff" on a Hollywood site. I didn't care for Streep's gown, and it looked like she pulled her hair back in a pigtail.)

I saw Sophia Vergara chatting with one of the interviewers, and then the cameraman panned down so we could see the dress -- she walked pretty well wearing that! (tight in the butt, then fanned out, IIRC.) I agree about her hair.

I noticed when she was announced as a winner she stood up and turned to her right, holding out her arms as if to embrace someone. But then she turned to her left and hugged and kissed her husband.

I liked Sophia's dress and would love to have her figure.

I did not watch them but I did see the highlights on the news this morning.

I agree about Lea Michele, when I see dresses like that I always wonder how they move without a fashion whoopsie! There were a few of those dresses I guess. And I agree about Angelina's dress, it was stunning tho she is so thin.

I agree with all your assessments, Susan, tho I'm not sure about Nicole Kidman, I did not like her dress. She is so pretty, the dress was too fussy for my taste. So many make the mistake of having the dress make a statement, the dress wears them.

Helen will win that one for sure, she is such a class act. I love Meryl Streep as an actress but she can look frumpy, not as frumpy as I do but for an actress....well you know! LOL!

I think the gal was Justin Timberlake's fiance'- Jessica Beil? what the heck was with the mess she wore? There seemed to be this third breast hanging in the middle. LOL
It bagged there and looked awful. That's the only one I was fixated on.
Meryl Streep always looks frumpy to me. Like she doesn't really try, or care, what she looks like.

I thought Angelina's dress was lovely as she was. I think I liked Kate Blanchette(?) the best.

Forgot about Mirren's dress. I may have gotten my Kates mixed up. Maybe it was Beckinridge(?)It was beige strapless and she is gorgeous with shorter brown hair. Beil and Streep were dowdy. This said by someone sitting in sweatshirt and turtleneck..lol

My favorites were Sophia and Angelina, they both looked stunning. I agree that Sophia's hair was too flat. My least favorite dress was Meryl Streep's, did not suit her well and her hair was a mess.

Lynnd, I agree with you regarding Nicole Kidman. I thought the dress overpowered her fair skin and fine features. She is so beautiful!

As far as the men go, George Clooney was gorgeous! He'd look good in a potato sack lol

Why does George get better and better with age. Why don't I? Not fair.

I adore Meryl Streep - she's amazing. But fashion-wise, not so much.

I don't care for Nicole Kidman's looks, ever; she always looks plastic to me and a little scary. And I think she looks much more "too thin" than Angelina does. I think Angelina's dress, figure, and overall "being" was incredible.

I looked at the pictures online this morning and thought Helen Mirrin and Angelina Jolie looked classy and gorgeous. I loved the picture of Piper Perabo laughing and showing off her great shoes. I agree with the rest of you that Meryl Streep's acting talent is amazing, but her fashion sense is dismal. What did you think about Andi MacDowell's daughter? I thought she was beautiful!

One more comment, a little off-topic:
In the first part of the show, Laura Dern won an award. But did you see her mother, Diane Ladd, watching her give the speech? I have never seen such a proud mother!

I didn't mean to suggest that I liked Nicole Kidman's dress; actually, I thought it was too much. I rarely like Versace, I think. Suzieque, I know what you mean about Nicole. She's really beautiful, but sometimes she looks so artificial and a little scary. She's probably had some "work" done (her lips, definitely), but part of it may be her own anxiety. Just guessing here. But I remember an interview (after her divorce) in which she said she had no sexual confidence.

She didn't always look like this. When she first came on the scene with Tom Cruise she looked so fresh and happy, and she spoke on talk shows in a free and easy manner. Something changed.

Pammyfay, I missed the first part of the show. Diane Ladd's reaction would have been nice to see.

But you know what? I find Morgan Freeman just as appealing. He's hardly as conventionally handsome . . . but it just shows that personality and character do have something to do with chemical attraction. Sometimes. LOL
