Why would her stylist do this to her?! Grrrr!!

Lisa, I read in the paper this morning that is the gown she wore to accept her Oscar for West Side Story in the 1960s. My husband commented on it too (and he usually does not care about such things.) I thought it was kind of cool, even before I read its provenance.

The Oscars were more fun to watch back in the day when people bought their own dresses and didn't have stylists to help them. It was more fun to see what they came up with. Last night was one of the most boring nights of all!

Some were nice, many were really awful. Whoppi looked like a GWTW extra...wearing something she found in the window! And Andra Day! Looked like something she found in her Grandmother's window! Jane Fonda looked great and a number from Atelier Versace were very attractive.

But boy do I miss fashion police!

I liked Whoopi's dress.

Haley Bennett -- that dress looks like she got into a fight w/a chicken and the chicken lost.

Nicole Kidman's dress... loved the color but it was not very flattering.

Why do the women have to cut the dresses where they leave no imagination as to what lies beneath?

Most of them don't have too much to show off to begin with.

If the men showed up w/crotch less pant and their ying-yangs glued to the side, people would be in an uproar.

I guess I need to get out more. I just looked at the Vogue link and realized i have never heard of many of those folks! Sure, Jane Fonda, Sandra Bullock, Mira Sorvino, and such, but none of the much younger guys and gals. There were some gorgeous dresses and some pretty bad misses. You wonder how their family/partners/friends let some of them out of the house!

I don't know...there was something very Jessica Rabbit about Kidman's dress.

But so many of them reminded me of home decor rather than fashion...from the window drapings of Andra Day, the della robia on Margo Robbie and the upholstery fabric on Lesley Manville, and all the "bullion fringe" on Gal Gadot to "shag carpet" on Haley Bennett.

Two came immediately to my mind. I liked Whoopi's dress and Allison Janney's.

A few of them are quite pretty, Jennifer Garner, Laura Dern, Jane Fonda, Allison Janney, Ashley Judd.

Margot Robbie, Elisabeth Moss and Mary J. Blige, I just want to reach out and push up their straps.

I don't understand Mirai Nagasu's outfit. It looks like a lace dress with my grandfather's BVDs under it. Or a very short white slip.

Nicole Kidman looks too thin to hold up that dress.

Wow - after watching that slideshow I want to just gouge my eyes out. 2 or 3 were nice. The others - WT HECK???

Most of them were nice. I liked Kidman's. I think with her height and thinness she brings off everything she wears. I liked Jennifer Garner, Jane Fonda (she's 80???!!!),, Gadot's, Janney's..More but I forget.

I liked the diversity of color and styles. This year there didn't seem to be a THING.

Jane Fonda's dress was very nice, but she needed lipstick!! Maybe some blush. Kelly Ripa's dress was quite the feat for such a tiny gal. Moreno should not have changed the neckline..I too thought it was awful, then read where it came from..but all that skin on a woman that age..not her best side !!! I agree on Kidman being a fail. Whoppi is not an attractive woman..wearing all that color for distraction was a logical move. I am soooo glad she had her hair under control!! I will never acknowledge let alone applaud the peek-a-boo naked gals. Good for you but GET A ROOM!!!

I wonder....do these people actually look in a mirror and think they look good.

Or, the stylist dressing them says "THIS, yes THIS, is just the thing!"

arcy - I didn't see the Oscar's last night but Jane Fonda's pale mouth may have been to play down her lips. She had a skin cancer removed from her lips just a few weeks ago, I saw her on a daytime show still wearing a skin toned bandage and she explained why....might be too soon for defined brighter color.

I did not love Meryl Streeps dress but she is the first to admit she's not a fashion diva. Jennifer Garner looked wonderful but I expected nothing less of her.

Jennifer Garner looked smashing, excellent color and fit. Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Durira, Zendaya, Allison Janney, and Mary J. Blige also looked very nice. Whoopi had too much dress, but at least it looked well-tailored. I like that Rita Moreno repurposed her first Oscar dress, but the original top looked better. Oh, and still love Tiffany Haddish's McQueen, she said when she hosted SNL that she was going to wear it whenever she had a fancy event, and there it was again!

morx8 that would make sense..as her make up is usually brighter.

I think Rita Moreno should have worn the dress as it originally was made. She looks good at 87 for sure.

I also miss Fashion Police and don't know who most of the people are in the photos. I like Jennifer Lawrence's dress and also Helen Mirren and Allison Janney. I did like Kelly Ripa's dress but I'm not a fan of seeing back ribs. (meow.)

I didn't know who most of those people were either, glad I'm not alone there. Can't recall who it was presenting with Jodi Foster but she made Jodi look incredibly tiny. Their Meryl Streep bit was funny though.

I think it was Jennifer Lawrence. I didn't realize she was so tall (or Jodie was so short).

Poor Nicole Kidman, someone should have told her. To me, hers was the worst followed by. forgot the name, started with an A, and Whoopi Goldberg. Three worst dressed to me. There were some beautiful very simple gowns. But do many of these women look anorexic?

The one I'd like to wear -- a dozen or so clicks into the slideshow. I don't know who Fatma Al Remaihi is, but to me she is regal, confident, the epitome of dignity.

Gosh how old am I, that I know longer have any wish for slinky, skin-tight, glittery, jaw dropping dress? lol.

I don't watch the Oscars but did scroll through some of the highlights to see what folks were talking about. Some beautiful outfits and some big fails. One thing that I always notice (and it's almost a decor thing) is why the designers/stylists/starts don't take the color of the red carpet into account when they choose an outfit's color. Some of those dresses just clashed so horribly with the color red of the carpet in the photos.

To me the worst was Haley Bennet. It looked like she saw a thatched roof hut:

Whoopi's dress did not suit her at all. (Not sure it would suit anyone.)

How do some of these women keep from having "wardrobe failures?" Double sided tape?
