Mother had it done as her lids were so hooded and she had hardly any lashes so it was impinging on her vision. However, I honestly don't remember where she went...probably because she was in FL at the time. I know she was happy with the result, but can't really be of any more help. (Only way I can ask her now is via seance.)

I did and it was some of the best money I ever spent. I had my upper and lower lids done. The doctor was a plastic surgeon ( he does all kinds of plastic surgery, not just eyes) and he did it in his office. I was sitting in a reclining chair, like a dentist's chair. He numbed the area around my eyes with an injected local anesthetic. That was the most painful part, although it was quite tolerable, less painful than getting a shot of novocaine.

I've had a colonoscopy and the anesthesia was entirely different. For that, I was kind of in a dream state and remembered nothing. I was awake and alert during the eye procedure.

I don't think there was anyone else in the room, but he may have had an assistant there.

He cauterized something and I could smell a burning smell. Actually it smelled a bit like hamburgers on the grill. Sorry, now you will never be able to eat a hamburger again.

I also could feel the tugging when he put in the stitches. Having grown up with a surgeon for a father, I am very tolerant of all medical procedures. Some people are very squeamish, but I am not.

The entire procedure took less than half an hour. I got up, walked through the waiting room (fast!) where my friend was waiting to drive me home. I used cold gel packs on my eyes several times during the day and all night.

At first I looked like a prizefighter, totally black and blue. I stayed home for a week until I couldn't stand it any more. Then I put on big sunglasses and went shopping at Bloomingdale's. By the end of two weeks I was entirely healed and went back to work. I think the stitches were removed after a week.

I think for anything more invasive, such as a brow lift or neck lift, you would have to be in a surgicenter. When I had my cataracts removed I went to a surgicenter where an anesthesiologist (M.D.) administered a light anesthesia.

Go for it! It is a fairly simple procedure and the difference in your face is huge -- just more bright and youthful. I'm seriously thinking of having my neck done next.

Hmmm not an answer to your question as I haven't had an eye job but I have had a colonoscopy and where I go they most certainly have an anesthesiologist and a nurse anesthetist.

In fact a few weeks ago I had an upper scope done (EGD). The anesthesiologist came in before hand and talked with me, asked questions, etc. The nurse anesthetist actually administered my sedation and was in the procedure room with me at all times. Afterwards (and possibly during) the anesthesiologist again checked me.

In my area most plastic surgeons do their work at a surgery center or an area of their office. Kind of like a surgery suite. I would hope that a nurse anesthetist worked under a anesthesiologist in that setting as well. Hmmm thinking though of a few years ago when hubby had iv sedation for removal of wisdom teeth and the oral surgeon himself did the iv and I guess the nurse monitored throughout the procedure. So a plastic surgeon may do similar. Definitely something to check out!!

I had my upper lids done three years ago. I also had an endoscopic brow lift and a face lift - my surgeon was one of two that developed the endoscopic brow lift in the 90s at UAB. My uppers sagged and I was only 50yo for Pete's Sake!! I started telling my DH when I was 48yo that if they kept sagging I giving myself the present when I turned the Big 5-0. I met three friends in Chicago for some shopping/play and the pictures totally pushed me into calling the plastic surgeon as soon as I got home, and the surgery two months later. It was the best money ever spent. My jowls didn't sag much but it's inevitable, so why not do it all at once and enjoy it longer. I had two deep lines across my neck - I have NO idea why, but those are now gone. Two friends were afraid it would change the way I look, but it's a younger, fresher me. Several people have said it's the best lift they've ever seen.

I've heard/read that doing upper eyelids w/o a brow lift is a waste, but I know an older woman (80yo) that had her uppers done w/o brow (in Drs office) and she looks great.

The only bad part about the entire process was getting the stitches removed from my upper lids. Felt like tiny bee stings... over and over and over again.

My surgeon recently did my older sister's facelift. She shouldn't have waited so long. ;) His office is downtown in the hospital/medical school area, and he is now doing total facelifts at his office. My sister is terrified of needles, etc so she opted to do it in the hospital and stay overnight. Cost her 3K more, but she wasn't comfortable with twilight.

I bruise easily, so there was a lot of black/blue and yellow for awhile. I had surgery June 30th and DD2 married Aug 15th. No one (that I hadn't told) was the wiser. I"m pretty open, so if someone asks or comments I tend to tell.

I had a brow lift and upper lid. Due to insurance I had to go thru my optomotrist w/referral to opthamologist to plastic surgeon.

It was done at the surgical center under general anesthesia-so it was the doctor (anesthesiologist) who administered. It was done on an out patient basis and I took a couple days off work-mainly due to the anesthesia-it makes me groggy for a couple days.

I barely had any discomfort, frankly-just itching. She removed nearly 1/2 an inch of skin! I had a couple of black eyes and looked like a chipmunk for a few days until all the bandages were off-first I had some wrapping around my forehead like a bandana, and then around my chin and up.

The forehead stitches stayed in for about a week and a half and then left a very numb sensation that ran about 3" on either side of the incision, but she put the incision right on my hairline and there is no scar at all. I can not even sees scars on my lids-she was phenomenal! The eyelids felt as if they'd been sunburned, but nothing horrific. My face did feel very tight and it hurt to scrunch my face for a while, but nothing that I couldn't handle.

It was about 2 1/2 years ago and it was the best thing I've ever done for myself. My vision is so much better and I don't look 'exhausted' all the time. The numbness in my forehead lasted a long time, but it's gone.

If you can have it done, do it-everyone I know who's had it has not regretted it. This photo was taken about two weeks after.

No details here...but my SIL had it done and I don't really like it....she had thicker droopy lids from the time I met her in our late teens and it I always thought of it as her "signature" look. She doesn't look like herself to me anymore...but she is happy with with so I guess that is all that matters.

Pesky - Do you by chance have a before picture?

I've actually been thinking about doing my lower lids. I've always had droopy upper lids, so I'm worried I won't look like me if I have them done. Do the doctors have a computer program that can show you what you will look like after? That might help me decide if I want to do the uppers.

Can I ask what a price range is for an eye job?

And two years later, my eyelids are a bit swollen in this pick (allergies) but still so much better than before. I am happy I don't have that pulled, over botoxed look.

Heavy, droopy eyebrows run in my family on my Dad's side, but my mom had droopy lids. She got her lids done years ago and it really made her look so much better.

In my case the pressure off my eyeballs caused my vision to change considerably! I really need new glasses as my prescription changed, but I can't find frames I like,

My insurance covered 100%, and I never saw a bill, so I have no idea what it costs. I have heard it's between 5-8 thousand, however.

Mine cost $3500 ten years ago. A friend recently got a price pf $5K. This is in the Philadelphia Main Line area, could be less or more elsewhere.

Don't mean to scare anyone here, but my experience was not all good. I had upper only done about 15 yrs ago as my lids were drooping to the point of impairing my vision. I really liked the outcome looks wise. I had eyes again! However the surgeon who did it must had nicked a muscle or taken too much lid on my left eye. As after surgery and still to this day my left eye does not close completely. I have problems with dry eye now and it did impair the vision in that eye as well. I have double vision (vertically) in the eye and it cannot be corrected with glasses.

So be aware that vision can be impacted. Also depending on age when it is done, it may need to be repeated as you age. My lids are again starting to droop.

Oh dear, Maru Lu! That is awful and underscores the importance of finding an excellent plastic surgeon, not just a dermatologist who does plastics on the side. (not that you did that)

Oh, dedtired, that would be wonderful, but the docs here seem to anesthetize. I need to look some more. Pesky, you look great, but i think you must be about twelve!! Thanks to all of you for relating your thoughts and experiences. Allison, I i remember your sharing your fab surgery a few years back. You did it early, which is exactly the way to go. Too late for that

I had a blepharoplasty on one eyelid twice...to make it perfect. I was dxed with idiopathic ptosis. My procedure was done by an ophthamologist/plastic surgeon at Mass Eye and Ear. Local anesthesia only was used. Have no idea about cost as insurance covered the two procedures.

Has anyone had just an under eye job? All of a sudden it seems like I have a lot of extra skin there. If you have can you share your experience?

jterri, I had both uppers and lowers done at the same time.The experience was the same as I described above. The lowers healed before the uppers by a day or two. My eyes felt a bit tight for a few months. The sensation was only in my upper lids, as if I had to make a bit of an effort to close them tightly. The oddest thing is that your eyelashes are numb for quite awhile afterwards. It is not bother some, just strange and made putting mascara on a little harder.

The procedure has lasted for all these years, no need for a touch up. My neck is another story! If I can find before and after shots of my eyes, I will post them. I also have some from the day after and I am not so sure you want to see that!

Oh yes I do! I want to see all the gory details. I really would like to do something with the lowers but I'm sort of chicken. it doesn't bother me to see blood on someone else though lol.

No blood, just major bruising and stitches, plus swelling. Delightful.
