Father has pneumonia
Comments (31)Colleen, you are correct that an uninhabited home cannot be fully insured, and so my brother is looking into having the house renovated somewhat in order to make it rentable. It has the original wiring from 1928 when it was built, and so that may be a major problem. They also need to seal all the holes where the mice get in, and that may not be possible, as some get in through the attic. We did not get an update this week on DF - we tried to call Karen, but she has been out of town on business a lot lately. Unfortunately, her work requires her to travel a lot, including trips every spring to D.C. to advise legislators on banking law, which is her specialty. The other trips are to meet with bankers in other parts of Texas, and so it is pretty boring. We did not get to discuss the estate the previous week-end because our niece tried to set it up and instead ended up antagonizing too many people - she's not as diplomatic as she thinks. Her father (Mike) has very different ideas about what to do with the estate than Kevin and I do. Karen was not feeling well, and I did not want to have this discussion when she is ill. Mother's will went into probate last week, but we know very little of the details yet. Lars...See MoreWould you have/have you had breast augmemtation?
Comments (81)Every life stage has a look that is authentic for each person. It is just silly for a 60yr old grandma to want perky boobs like her teenage grand daughter. Some people really resist progressing to the next stage of life but the body does anyway. I just wish we gain the wisdom to accept our aging bodies. That being said, sometimes people look older or disproportionate in some way that is not suitable to their life. I had a young niece who was slim and athletic but had 38G breasts. Her life had major impact with dealing with those breasts... Or beasts as she would call them. Boy could not see past her boobs neither some of her girls. She could not shop and wear normal clothes. She had to use dressing pads under her breasts to avoid rashes. Breast reduction was medically necessary for her. Another friend decided to do a tummy tuck. She had an emergency c- section with her first child and the cut muscles never recovered. She found it hard to find professional clothes that worked especially as she had a narrower waist and skinny butt. Tummy tuck really changed her life....See MoreHave you had a "TDAP" vaccine?
Comments (17)Yes, I did. I'm not sure anyone here remembers, but when my daughter was 5 months old, she got pertussis. We had delayed vaccinations because she was sick often, inc., with something that seemed to be seizures. All of my other children were up-to-date. What is worrisome to me is that, in Australia, they no longer believe in "cocooning" Pertussis has been a major health problem there, so they would always advise family members to get vaccinated to protect children who were too young for the shots. They since concluded that there was no evidence it helped. In our case, I think my oldest daughter brought it home from school, but it never affected her more than a little fever for a day or two. The doctor told me that she could definitely have passed it on, even being vaccinated. (And my doctor is pro-vax for sure.) At the same time my daughter had it, my friend and her children got it (same school; was the very end of school so I don't know about anyone else). Her children were up-to-date with shots and not close to needing a booster. A scary reminder that a vax can help but isn't effective for everyone. Here is a link that might be useful: Australia...See MoreHave you gotten the shingles vaccine?
Comments (42)Hmmm.....now I'm less certain about why the doctors said no to Marie. I just read this from the Cleveland Clinic: Diabetes, hypertension, chronic renal failure, coronary artery disease, chronic lung disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and other medical conditions are not considered contraindications to the vaccine. And this from the Immunization Action Coalition: Can a person who has received the vaccine infect others with this virus? No. It is safe to be around infants and young children, pregnant women, or people with weakened immune systems after you get the shingles vaccine. Transmission of the chickenpox virus from a person who has received the shingles vaccine has never been documented. Some people who get the shingles vaccine will develop a chickenpox-like rash near the place where they were vaccinated. As a precaution, this rash should be covered until it disappears. So I'm guessing the doctors know something about the specific circumstances that we don't....See Moresheilajoyce_gw
