My cookies were not good -- think I know why

I used to make awesome chocolate chip cookies. Lately, not so much. Made them last night and the same thing happened -- the dough was kind of crumbly and the cookies (which normally puff up then flatten out) stayed practically in the same shape as what I scooped them (rounded). The texture is kind of cakey.

I tried baking them "conventionally" instead of convection and the result was the same.

Finally, I remembered Alton Brown saying flour should always be weighed, not measured.

I got new measuring cups at Christmas (KitchenAid brand) -- so I scooped a cup of flour and then weighed it on my digital kitchen scale.

Most sites say one cup of flour should weigh 120 grams, some say 126 grams and some 130 grams. My "cup" of flour weighted over 145grams!! And the cookies had 2 1/4 cups of flour in them.

Next time I am measuring the flour -- if I can ever figure out how much 1 cup of flour actually weighs...
