What else would you expect from WalMart?

Some dish involving a strong marinade or lots of spices, maybe. Or, chop it up and make a batch of stock, using all the flavor tricks, always nice to have in the freezer and won't be putting a lot of effort into a subpar bird.

Maybe you shouldn't have "rubbed it with Cookies" (LOL)! Linda, I love your typos, but I haven't figured this one out.

Sue, I guess you aren't hip enough to have discovered Chocolate Chip Cookie Chicken. It's one of those "encrusted" things. Very chic these days. We call it CCCC.

Anyhow....Maybe I am spoiled by the free range birds....
The next bird may get cooked in a Spaghetti sauce.....or perhaps cooked, cut off the bone and made into a curry.

Linda, no difference if you bought hte "flavor enhanced" stuff. It's all kind of soft, kind of spongy, kind of salty.

Never heard of "cookies" other than the stuff sold by the Girl Scouts, etc. Hey, "Thin Mint Chicken", yeah, that'd have some flavor. Maybe not good flavor, but it would be flavorful, LOL.

I have this problem with any meat I buy from WalMart.

To answer your question: I have no idea why you would think it would be good!

Anyway, Tyson is a huge chicken producer obviously and I won't wax poetic on the whole mega-chicken factory operation which is a disgrace but hey, I buy the stuff occasionally so I can't be all high and mighty about it.

On a side note I bought some free range chickens from a local farm and they were not a single bit better than any supermarket chicken....I was really disappointed...just like any other chicken..and these were from a small farm where I knew the conditions etc.

Some of the so called great 'amish' chickens I buy are really tough and some of the generic chicks are really dilicious.....so I don't know...

Whole Foods had 4 to 4.5 lb chickens on sale last week for 1.29lb. I bought two for a little under 10.00 and they were delicious very meaty. I made that sticky chicken 5hour recipe it was delicious.

I was thinking sticky chicken too, LindaC.
Maybe with all the spices and cooking slowly in the crockpot, the meat will absorb some flavor.

If not, what about slicing the breast and simmering in some GOOD broth?

Make a flavorful chicken salad from the rest (heavy on the onion and celery)!

The only meat I EVER buy at Mal-Wart is frozen shrimp, then only occasionally.

Yeah Islay...I think that's what I am going to do, curried chicken....over rice with mango chutney on the side.

Must be a hungry possum or stray cat that would like it? I'd probably dump it in the chili pot because I'm a tightwad.

I was thinking more of, do you have a hungry dog in the area? I'm wondering if it was starting to turn on you. You could always cut it up and put it in the heat ducts of someone you don't like.... but that would be wrong wouldn't it? Pretty bad when chicken can't even be said tastes like chicken!

Funny you should mention Cookies. I knew what you were talking about. I bought some and tried it recently and what a disappointment. I'm amazed how incredibly bland it is. It's not bad, I'm not saying that, just not much to it. A very, make that VERY mild sauce. Which variety do you use? I tried the original - only type carried by the store. The Kraft Hickory was much more potent. Cookies reminded me of the basic cheap Kraft & comparable store brand except about 4 times more expensive. Having just finished the Kraft Hickory and surprised that it had a decent, though mild flavor, and with the advertising of the Cookies infomercials I somehow expected a lot more. Just tried some Bullseye Texas style. Nice little kick to it but not overpowering. I tried Bullseye because it was recommended by America's Test Kitchen, though they showed the original. I haven't made my own BBQ sauce for a long time but probably will when I use up some of the bottles I have around here. But I don't use as much BBQ sauce as I used to either.

Maybe shred that chicken, hit it heavy with cayenne/BBQ seasonings and make some fajitas or tacos out of it?

I used the Cookies all purpose seasoning blend. It's garlic, salt, chili powder red pepper and "spices"...oh yes and anticaking agents! LOL!
Yes cookie's original is not hot....but has good flavor. After all, it's made in Wall Lake Iowa, Andy Williams' home town! Most rural Iowans think green chilis are impossibly hot!
Try the Sweet smokey BBQ sauce...or the hot wing sauce.....not really very hot!
Actually the soup was good ....but you would be hard pressed to tell the chicken from tofu!

Never even seen cookies. I usually just do the typo correcting in my head thinking, "She really meant so-and-so", but I sure as heck couldn't figure out what would be close to Cookie's!!! It must be an Iowa or midwest kind of sauce. Our's isn't BBQ, but we do have a local sauce for everything. It is Dale's sauce (which the completley rare (last June is the last time I can think of) occasion of grilling and steaks, is all I put on it. It's to die for!).

My Walmart only sells Tyson and Purdue (boneless) chicken so I don't think you can fault the store...

I don't know why you would bash Wal Mart either. How about Soy Vey Very Very Teriyaki? They sell that too...along with the Great Value brand.

I don't care about the brands they sell. I don't purchase meat from Target either. Only canned foods. A small local grocer sells the best looking beef I've seen. Don't eat it so don't buy it. But do purchase their homemade sausage. Publix brand chicken and pork and seafood from local vendors only. What's not to understand? I purchase food where I can trust what I get. As you can probably determine, I don't do Walmart.

Walmart sells mostly dreck.

I used to buy all my meat from Publix. I have since switched to Super Target. They have fabulous things like "Laura's Lean Beef", which is grown with no hormones and mostly grass-fed and so tender and delicious. They have a great brand of chicken called gold n plump, which are cage free and has that delicious "chickeny" flavor chicken is supposed to have. They have a good selection of wild-caught (frozen) seafood as well, the Archer Farm chemical-free shrimp is the best I have ever had.

Local organic farms are a real rip-off where I live. Everything I buy from Target is just as good or better at about 1/3 the price. It's my favorite store!
