Please help with Trane quote

I get the following quote from one trane dealer for our 2200 square feet house.They are XR15 series.I am in Texas.

upstair 2.5ton 4TTR5030E air handler 4TEE3F40B1 $7670

downstair 3.5ton 4TTR5042E 4TEE3F40B1 $8232

Is this the reasonable price for Trane?

Does seem like it's pretty high, but we can't see every detail about the job here. Does this include any ductwork replacement or anything else that might be considered significant to the work scope? Those are good units, but for just the unit changeout, they're probably around $1000 high on both up and down.

Thank you very much for the comments. we live in a 2 story
townhouse and the AC is held on a deck beside the roof. The contractor said they need crane to get the unit up.
I think this may cost about $300-$500. In fact i also got a second quote from one other dealer with almost same unit for $17500.
Although i know trane is kind of pricy,i feel the quote seems high.Anyway I will try if i can get 3rd quote.

I think we live in the same neighborhood. I bought a new home, single 4 ton system on 2800', and had 17 WYES. Yes, you heard correct, 17. Only 4 taps off of the plenum. I couldn't control temp anywhere until I ripped it all out and started over. Sounds like a very fair price and you will be much happier without all of the wyes. I'm sure your guy will, but make sure he attaches the ducts for the 'unimportant rooms' closer to the coil and the 'important rooms' closer to the end. You elec bill in the winter should improve dramatically.

Based on my last appraisal...it shows the main level living area is 1,763 square feet, while the upstairs is 846. I was slightly off on my total square footage assumption. The first contractor did make the statement that the XV80's smallest available size is 80K btu and it would run in low stage a majority of the time, unless very cold. He mentioned that the biggest benefit would be the dehumidification capability and DC motor would significantly increase efficiency. He said that a single-stage unit...only blowing at one speed...a 40K btu would suffice. I will ask about the XT and let you know. thanks for the help!

@tigerdunes thank you for the reply. I have a honeywell wifi connected thermostat that i'm happy with, unless i was going to get that nice trane touch screen, i'd prefer to keep my existing, looking at the trane slection, it appears honeywell oem's for them anyway, so i'm good with what i have. My house is an east/west facing, so in the evening, it gets pretty warm in the house, the upstairs is warm in the summer and cool in the winter, the house is about 15 years old. the salesman, did look in all the rooms of the house and measure. he said we would need to add a return at the air handler and probably another, seemed to know what he was talking about. i have friends who tell me they got their whole systems installed for $3-4K so when i'm seeing 7k, i'm just wondering if it's a rip off or not. (i know the equipment is not the same) I did have another 8k quote 2 years ago for a new bryant system, so it's "on par" with what I've received in the past but i know the 1st company was expensive any they overcharged for the repair i needed 2 years prior. if you think 7k is good price or even a bit high, i'm okay with that, because i believe the company will do good work and i have read trane has good equipment, but if it's thousands over priced then i'll want to look elsewhere.

Cuda71 the house has 1500 sq ft walkout basement ,1500 sq ft main floor and 500 sq ft second level.In addition to this quote I also received another quote for a lennox system that was 24K the hvac contractor that gave us this quote did not do a manual J or D calc. I asked him if he did this his response was you really dont believe people really do those do you , I said if you want our business you will provide me a copy of the manual J and D calculations. He said he will do it for two hundred dollars and he will schedule it to be done in a couple of days, needless to say we have never heard back from him , This is a huge hvac company in atlanta. The first quote I received was for a tempstar system it was in the ball park I thought @ 12K but no manual J or D calcs. He does the rule of thumb he suggested 6 ton for basement and main and 1.5 tons for the upstairs , sounded like overkill to me . If any of you TRANE guys are located in north east georgia and would be interest in a hvac quote let me know.

I live in Houston & I'm looking at a TRANE 4TTB3060 (condenser) + a TRANE 4TXFH054 (evaporator) for $5800.

This is a 5 ton unit. My house is about 2300 sq'. I wonder why our quotes/systems are so different. Maybe the contractor thought I wanted to go REALLY on the cheap side.

six tons for 2200 sq ft? what size are you replacing?

this is AC only? how do you heat?

I would want a load calculation.

My initial reeaction to the pricing is that it is extremely high.

Thanks for the message.
I am replacing 2.5 ton upstairs and 3.5 ton downstairs.
This is AC only.We also use same AC to heat.
I quoted from 3 contractors that i find through trane website. None of them give me load calculation and the price is extremely high.
I will dump those contractors and will get other 3 or 4 contrators quote again.

do I understand you use straight electric heat strips to heat?

if so, why not heat pumps?

You are right that we use straight electric heat strips to heat.
None of 3 quotes mentions heat pump.Maybe because i am in houston or our current system is not heat pump.
