I saw my first Junco last week. I am hoping that I'll see more. I have seeing White Crown sparrow lately, too. The gold finches (no longer gold) seemed to have come back from where-ever they had gone. I am hoping to see some American Tree Sparrow next. They are the most common birds in my yard during last winter. Now that it's cold enough, I put up my modified suet feeder (with a tail extender attachment). The woodpecker found it within 5 min. Unfortunately I haven't been able to make the Red Belly woodpecker that comes infrequently to come more often. How long do the ducks stay? I thought they have left by now with the water staring to freeze, but a large group seems to come in the morning to raid the feeders. I am hoping that they leave before more of the Junco comes back. I can't keep anything in the ground feeder. Paul

I, like you, currently like the look of grey cabinets but like white as well and I think that long-term I'll be glad that I chose white since grey will probably go out of style (or apparently from what I've learned reading this thread it already has). On the other hand, since you're using IKEA cabinets you could just change the doors out in 5 or 10 years if you get the gray & get tired of it. The floors on the other hand are a lot more work to change. I love the color that you picked but with a large family you will probably have a lot of dirt & a dark floor will show it all. In my last house we refinished the hardwood floors and used a beautiful dark stain. With 4 kids & a dog I regretted that dark stain within a few weeks. The natural oak never showed dirt like the dark stain did.

Thanks for checking in—I was traveling and am now back on track! Update: I purchased a colorful, beautifully embroidered Scalamandré fabric (pillows in progress) and also had pillows made with a calm blue, gray, and taupe Lee Jofa fabric. I put the Matouk pique coverlet on top to bottom, so it has a curved scallop up near the headboard. I may monogram the hemstitched part of the pillowcase, and/or get the pillowcases Mtnrd found. Ordered cordless sconces after getting a crazy quote to install 2 outlet boxes in the hurricane-proof wall. Chiseling a hurricane wall can't be the best idea, and I have high hopes for the cordless which should arrive soon. Thanks to @Jilly for the latest pic, reminding me about centering the sconces. I did that in the mockup below. I love the blue grass cloth mirror in the mockup, but don't love that it doesn't reflect anything interesting, and there will be another mirror over the bachelor chest. Toying with reproducing a watercolor of me and my small (at the time) daughters. But a bit too twee? Apologies in advance if this posts three times, having trouble with GW... will try to post the links and photos separately. ETA photos

Up the landscaping game of this area. Large rectangular planters on either side of the door in front of the painted paneling - the color of Beth's first photo. Plant tall bright evergreen shrubs on the brighter side of green to pop against the dark panels. Add some bright annuals in during spring and summer. Add some pots where and there in the summer too.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome! Barb, Imelda and I have gotten to know dcarch via his amazing photos and cooking techniques over the last 5 or 6 years.

I'm still trying to navigate around your site and have lurked for a couple weeks. Everyone is so nice and your pictures are fantastic. One of these days I'm going to put some real effort into making my plating look more appetizing than a bowl of dog food!

As soon as I figure out how to post my photobucket pics I'll share some with you (but you must promise not to snicker out loud and hurt my feelings!). Currently I'm on a low-carb quest and I'm partnering with some internet friends as we are all attempting to lose "that last 10 pounds".

I look forward to getting to know you and be inspired by your magazine quality pics!

Welcome! This is a great forum and you never know what you'll see. For instance this morning was breakfast in bed- fried alligator tail with a honey dipping sauce and a cold beer. I'll spare you the pictures though ;-)

Don't get too wrapped up trying to figure out the organization of this forum, as there is none. Threads with the most current activity are on top, that's it. Don't bother to do a search, it barely works. Best off to use google and include the word gardenweb in your query. But mostly people just start new threads unless they happen to remember that there was an old thread for the same topic.

Another welcome to the Cooking forum from Michigan. I hope to see more of you here.

As for the pictures, well, I'm widely known for blurry, off center, odd colored photos. I post 'em anyway, just to prove that I've cooked SOMETHING, even if you can't tell what it is. Post away!

Oh, and there is also a conversations section to post pictures of things besides food, like European vacations and pets and whatever.

Welcome everyone!

I'm another one that is known for posting iffy pictures - I love seeing photos of super tasty meals even when they are blurry or off center. And please include recipes - I love seeing the ingredients and preparation instructions for each meal. But mostly - welcome out of lurkdom!

I am a Newbie here. I took the plunge right away and posted a forum topic about loaf pan sizes for baking home made bread.

Thank you for the warm welcome from so many of you who are members here already.

Sounds as though you are enthusiastic and enjoy the website and the forums, and in addition enjoy meeting other members with your interests.

Sounds good to me, too.

Sorry I don't remember the exact name of the post I submitted in the cooking forum, but, I hope if you are a home baker you will find my post and send me some information on loaf pan sizes and the right amount, by weight, of dough (or batter) for each size pan.
