Help with crating my pup 'Brandy'

I am out of town visiting my best friend, but I had made up my mind to get a crate for our 5 mo. old Shitz Tsu before I left.

I need your help.

I did purchase a black wire crate yesterday at the feed store that will be perfect.

We have had a lot of trouble with her sneaking off to potty on the tile by our front door. I have managed to catch her on several occasions and she knows it is wrong, but has now just found another spot to soil.

I think her biggest problem is not knowing how to "let us know" she needs to go out.

We have a fenced back yard, a house trained 6 year old Lhasa, and a 13 year old indoor only cat. They all get along fine.

I have several questions, as this is my first attempt to use a crate.

Have I already waited too long to crate her?

Where do I put the crate?

Do I put a blanket in there?

Food or water?

Keep her collar on?

Put toys in the crate with her?

Will the other animals taunt her?

Will she cry?

Does she go in it at night?

How can I make it an enjoyable experience rather than a punishment?

Should I get a doggie door as well after our training?

Is there doggie Xanax that "I" can take during this transition?

Thanks for helping me on this, although I will not be home until tonite, the kennel is in the back seat of my car and I am already feeling anxious about putting her in the crate. I do know that this is something I must do for her own good, and our sanity.

Of all the dogs I have had in my life, this is the first that I cannot seem to get house broken.

She has been to the vet, and we have ruled out any physical issues, she is just stubborn, but the sweetest dog I could ever think to have, expecially with the grand children. She adores them and is very gentle and kind.

I hope these questions don't sound odd or silly, but I have never done this before and envy those who have had a positive experience with it.
