I would think that the bread machine would stir too much for a quick bread. Quick breads need to be mixed and baked immediately.
He's 12.....why not the oven? Lots of kids are baby sitting at 12. Buy him oven mitts.
My son at 10 would make his own lunch. I thought he was making a sandwich but he was making a cheese dog in the oven.
He's old enough to make quick bread, he's old enough to use the oven.

I don't like him using the oven when I'm not around because he often forgets to turn the oven or the burner off, has melted plastic lids, forgets to set the timer and/or check foods that eventually burn.... He's generally good at food prep, and I'm fine with him cooking anything he wants when I'm around, but I'm not comfortable with him using the oven when I'm not home.

Thanks for the advice, but I'm really looking for recipes.

AM, my Zo has a special setting for quick breads, so I'm assuming it's a quick mix, no rise and a bake cycle. I haven't used it because I just don't bake that many quick breads.

I think whether you allow your kids to use an oven and at what age depends on the kids and on your "worry level". I used the stove and oven way before I was 12. Amanda did too, but she was a very responsible and meticulous child. Ashley was/is prone to being distracted. I've come home more than once to find something turning to charcoal in the oven because she forgot it was there and went somewhere with a friend, or (more likely), that she baked something but forgot to turn off the oven and it had been heating, empty, for several hours. sometimes she turns the oven on, gets distracted and decides not to bake, but forgets to turn the oven off.

And, because I am a worrier, I worry all afternoon that something is in the oven or on the stove and I'm going to come home to a house full of smoke, which has happened more than once.

Anyway, if you have bread machine recipes, I'd try one of those and see how the machine works. I do have a couple of bread machine cookbooks, I can check when I get home tonight.

We got a Breadman machine (TSV from the "Q") that we got for under $100 back in late '09 for DH. Even it has a quick bread setting. We use my regular recipes & it's always worked great. Ingredients go in same as for yeast breads...wet first then dry. Add-ins (nuts, chips, etc.) go in the little chute affair.

Did you check the owner's manual for your bread machine for recipes? They are designed to be used in your particular machine and would tend to be more successful.

I've never used my Zo for quick breads, in fact I've only baked one loaf of yeast bread in it just to check the amount of electricity it took, but many of my Bread Machine Cookbooks have a large selection of quick breads and cakes. In looking at the recipes some were mixed in the bread machine, and many of them required being mixed in a bowl and only baked in the bread machine. So there are options.

I'd suggest a trip to the library and see if they have any of these books - they all have a large selection of them.
