Beautiful Lisa! There's just nothing like homemade bread. I could cook a huge, deluxe meal for someone and I guarantee the one thing they will rave about is the homemade bread. I've seen the farmhouse bread recipe and it looks wonderful. Good luck with the wheat bread. I used Peter Rinehard's method to make whole wheat pizza dough last night. Not too bad for whole wheat.

It's a pretty standard bread recipe.....I haven't made "milk bread" in a lot of years....because of the milk it makes great toast!
Another one I seem to have forgotten is beer bread.....pretty much the recipe you posted but beer instead of milk....I've got to find me some flat beer!

I like hearty breads, but I'm sorry - even the plainest white loaf is something special when it's home made. The difference from store bought is unreal.

It did make wonderful toast. That is what I had for breakfast yesterday. The first time I made it, there wasn't any left over for toast. By the time I wanted to make some, it had disappeared.
Tracey, the Peter Reinhardt recipe you posted is my next project. I am going to make up the pre doughs on Sunday.

Lisa, I was just going to mention those perfect slices too, mine are never that even, plus the end piece is always gone, that I cut off and eat it while it's still hot.

I grew up on Farmhouse White, it was our "every day" bread, although in the summer we had a much richer bread full of eggs and milk to use up all the excess eggs.

I like bread far more than is good for me, but I just keep baking it. I don't have kids at home to eat it up, so I give it to Amanda, to Elery, to my boss, LOL, and then I bake some more.

Fabulous! That bread is the only DH likes as sandwich bread but I don't make it because he can't stop himself. Your bread looks perfectly delicious and soft. Will look forward to your report on whole grain bread.

Lisa -- That farmhouse white recipe is my all-time favorite white bread to make at home... But its interesting that you added the salt with the dry ingredients -- I have always followed the recipe as stated and always figured that there was something magic about letting the dough rest and start proofing prior to the addition of the salt. I'd be curious what difference that step makes... But I love the bread the recipe produces so much I'm not sure I could bring myself to tinker with it!

Aww Emily, what about being fearless? LOL.

I'm going to get around to making this bread. I bought a nice long pullman pan and this would be perfect for it as well as for my DW who prefers white bread while I prefer ww with lots of stuff. I think the big pullman pan could hold the whole recipe.

coconut, my 14" pan holds approx. 3.8 pounds of dough. Hope that helps.
