Needing Prayers (Long-Sorry)

I've asked before, for my two cousins and my Mom. Now I'm back for more, because I know KT prayers are very powerful. My husband Vic has MS (multiple Sclerosis). Has had it since 1997 (diagnosed). He's gone downhill, had to quit work, started walking with a cane, then walker, then wheelchair. He no longer drives. He's 64. Over New Years Weekend he got much worse, couldn't get out of bed. Literally crawled from bed to bathroom, and I brought him all his meals. Told his main neurologist, who said , come into the office for IV steroids, that may help. Last Monday he had the treatment, on the way home in the car he had a seizure, so I drove staraight to the Emergency Room of the hospital where I get my kidney dialysis. They took him right in, he had two more seizures in the bed at the ER. Went to Intensive Care Unit, he was unconscious for two days (Monday-Tuesday last week). BY Wednesday he had woke up, was talking, eating, reading newspapers, watching TV, wanting only to come home. They couldn't get him out of bed to do physical therapy, so last Friday he was transferred to a local Rehab Hospital, for up to 20 days. That's all his Medicare and private insurance will pay for. Not much happened on the weekend, Today (Monday) they'll start some kind of physical therapy. I'm so frightened. Miss him like crazy, and our poor dog keeps looking for him. Please say a prayer that he does well in Rehab and can come home walking! Thank you one and all!

Can you take the dog to visit him? I think that would help alot.

Jannie, I think a small hand made sampler would be something lovely. Though it might not be her taste, it would likely be appreciated somewhere in her new home. Additionally a gift cert would be nice also to go along with it. I have a very pretty needle point framed pic given me by a good friend, and though it does not fit the decor in my living room, it is cherished and has a very special spot in 'my' (bed) room. I often think of the friend who made it for me when I see the pic. Sue...who is sentimental

I'm so sorry for all your travail. Do your husband's doctors offer you alternatives and explain likely outcomes? Many times people experience stomach distress as 'chest pain'. Diverticulitis can be very painful. (I recall an aunt being on an IV while she fasted to rest her digestive system, but that was a long time ago; there are probably new treatments today.) Something that has helped me in times of stress is to remember that now is all *anyone* really has. Don't allow concerns about tomorrow to ruin the gift of today.

I don't think you're a child-hating ogre. I think you're feeling frustrated and isolated, which is a perfectly normal set of human emotions. You said that DH is stepping up, which is promising. It sounds like he genuinely wants to work on this, but isn't sure how to be a real parent. IMO, he wants to be his son's buddy, not his father, which explains the sundae when SS didn't finish his supper. I understand the annoyance at SS asking your mom for a birthday gift. My FDH's son (also 9) also has his "I want" on these days... And it drives me nuts!! But try not to compare what your family does for SS vs. what DH's family does for your kids - it's out of your hands, and isn't worth stewing over. For next year's birthdays, maybe drop a STRONG hint to DH's mom and ask "Do you need gift ideas?" when you invite them to your kids' parties, but try not to waste your energy on this one. Stealing and lying are not OK. What consequence came down for stealing the game and lying about it? Would you mark kids' initials on their games and other valuables to help prevent this is the future? It sounds to me like overall, SS is showing improvement and so are you and DH. In past posts, you didn't seem to even be able to focus on certain things that SS did, or identify exact cases where DH was slipping... But in this one, you are able to articulate precise things that are issues and why. This is probably going to come out all wrong, but if I can clearly identify specific things that A__ (FDH's 9yo son) did that were "bad", then it was a good couple days. For example, A__'s last stay was Friday morning to Sunday afternoon, and it was quite good. He had his "I wants" out, he got busted for a small lie, and he was chewing on the Wii remote, but was overall well-behaved. He had pretty good manners, was positive and helpful, had a good attitude and was mostly listening to us. Basically, he was being 9, not being a little sh17, so it was good. Does that make any sense? IMO, if you can say "He was mostly good, but with the following bad behaviors, ___, ___ and ___" then you're on the right track. I think that venting to us is probably a good way to get your frustration with SS and DH off your chest, and get your thoughts together so that you can talk to DH without exploding. But one thing to note... You mentioned that you feel DH is comparing the kids - well, to be frank, that's what you're doing too. I only deal with one kid at home, so I don't fully know what boat you're in, but please try to remember that each of these kids is different and needs different things from you and DH. Thinking "one does this, and one does that" just sets you, DH and the kids all up for failure.

OK, the ceiling is about halfway down and the wood is not coming down without a fight. The contractors are being as careful as they can be, but still the wood is cracking and chipping. I could try glueing and puttying it back together, but at this point I'm thinking that painting is going to be easier and much less risky. And as far as the fireplace wall goes, Les, I almost always agree with everything you say but the photos don't really capture the true hideousness of the color. There's some kind of varnish over the top so I can't even restain because it won't take. Also, there are many cracks and gaps in the fireplace paneling that allow cold air in - part of the reason for painting that wall was so I could caulk the heck out of those gaps without the caulk being noticeable. (I used clear caulk on some of the biggest cracks a few years ago but it is very noticeable since the caulk is shiny.) The guy that built this house was apparently striving for authenticity, right down to the draftiness and lack of insulation of a 200 year old farmhouse. So, assuming that I'm going to paint both the ceiling and the fireplace wall, what are your opinions? I was thinking of choosing a colonial color and going for the look like in the links that reeree posted. The only thing is that I don't want to commit to colored trim throughout the house - I don't mind it in this room, but would have trouble figuring out where to transition it back to white. I could easily do the baseboards dark in that room without a problem, and could do the windows as well, but could not do the posts or the trim at the top of the stone half wall without connecting directly a room with white trim. So actually, I was thinking of a dark dark reddish brown - something like BM's hadley red or townsend harbor brown. I was thinking of putting it on both the ceilng and fireplace wall. But I'm worried that this will look too imposing, especially if the rest of the trim is white and the walls are light. I do like the look of the blue and green as well, but after 10 years of blue sofas, I'm a bit sick of blue. The green is pretty but since I have no idea what color I'll end up with as far as sofas and rugs go, I hate to commit to a definitely color - I'd rather stay neutral. I was also thinking of a dark gold color like BM Livingston Gold, Blair Gold, Summerdale Gold, or Yorkshire Tan. I think I'd rather stay away from painting the ceiling white because of the soot/dust from the stove. We have another beamed ceiling in our breakfast area that is painted white and it looks kind of blah. I'm considering rehanging only every other beam to keep the ceiling less busy. It is a small room, maybe 13 x 15 (in fact, when I'm ready to ditch the blue sofas, I'm going to be posting for room layout help - it's such an oddly laid out room that I can't figure out what type of furniture I even need in there!). But because the room is open to the kitchen and foyer (where the photos are taken from) and because the ceilings are high (they are about 10.5 ft) the room doesn't feel claustrophobic, so I'm not afraid to put a dark color back on the ceiling. So at any rate, assuming we're painting the ceiling, beams, and fireplace wall (and assuming the walls are going to be a yellow-ish cream), what colors would you suggest? What about the baseboards and windows? Thanks for all the advice!

gosh dh only has to say he's tired or like lasr night didn't feel good, and i get worried...so know a fraction of your worry...

please take care of yourself...you know you can't stress your system, too! maybe check in with your own dr if only to destress abit...don't want you to get sick!

good ole medicare, sigh...it used to read in the medicare manuel 100 days...what a load of @r@p that was...they wanted to send my mother home alone or take all her $$ and put her on medicaid...a great incentive though, as she got with the program and went home...but the un-kindness (even the social worker) was horrible...

My mom had MS...I know what you are going through. Please don't get your hopes up too high that your husband will be walking again. He may, but the odds aren't stacked that way. Don't forget to get help for you as well during this period of your lives!

Jannie, Saying prayers for your DH and also for you. We are going through several health issues right now with Rhiannon in her cast, DH facing surgery and our 2 year old Hudson having surgery also. It is hard when everything piles up at once. I always say I just keep treading water trying to keep my head above water, and pray like crazy. Hope that the rehab helps your DH out.

Sending prayers for the family. Just a thought about the rehab. Here DH went thru the pulmary and cardic rehab and after the insurance stopped paying we only have to pay less than $5.00 per session. Check into that where your husband goes.

Jannie, you and DH both have my prayers being sent up for you. One of my bestest buddies' hubby had MS, I know only too well the pain and anguish that both you and your darling man are going thru. I so loved Ron, MS is a horribly debilitating disease, I'm keeping you both close to my heart.
