Well, yes, Lou, Elery was here, but the "stuff" I was referring to was the jam, LOL. Not baking but I used it on the bread, so it was baking and "stuff".

Lou, my friend, I know I baked nice, healthy 10 grain bread, but I really wanted your cinnamon buns. Sigh.

Donna, I did use frozen blueberries, some of those I picked and froze last summer. I've been working hard at getting that freezer cleaned out, at least a little. It never seems to get emptier, I put something in everytime I take something out! Will your boys shovel snow? (grin) I'd feed them pie....

Oh lordy I am so homesick! Between your blueberry pie and the maple oat bread. . . You know I haven't had a good MI blueberry pie in YEARS! I am way overdue. Last time I picked blueberries they were MD ones, and I made jam. They were OK, picking them was fun, but they were kinda watery tasting. Maybe I can get some good Jersey ones this year! Or some from the Poconos. I have had good wild blueberries in PA. Sometimes I find blueberries imported from exotic South Haven in the groceries around here.

When I do the Yellow Cake Mix; with Yeast, again I'll make sure I write everything down.

I think the recipe you use now, is the same as I use for Challah and Bunns.
Been using it since the 50's, when I converted the Army recipe , to home use.
But I'm always trying something different.

Down at our Rifle Range we have a lot of Blueberry bushes.

Sometimes; while we are there talking, a Bear will Pop his head up out of the bushes.
Then they go right back to picking Berry's.( 30 Yds. away )
We don't disturb him at all, I don't want to, really.
Of course they work their way down the hill and then out of sight.

Lou, the pie didn't break, I cut three vent holes in the top and the berries just oozed out and all over the top crust. The crust is still intact, you just can't see it under all the berry goo.

L, I remember the first time we met, we went picking blueberries. I still pick at the same place, and I still have berries in the freezer from last year's picking. Maybe I'll have to make jam and send some of that, or blueberry syrup for pancakes, that would be yummy.

The best blueberry pie I ever had, (and made) was my first try, from some blueberries I picked in a secret patch we found at Sleeping Bear National Park. It was from an abandoned farm I think. August berries. That patch we picked was the second best patch I have ever been to. I used all of it for jam though. I haven't made a pie since I got into jam. But this year I am cutting down on jam, I have to use up what I have stockpiled. I really miss making and eating pie. Being single, pies mold on me before I can eat them all. Hard to believe, I know.

That pie looks soooo good! And as always I'm in awe of your canning abilities!

lpinkmountain, do you have any freezer space? Blueberry pie would freeze beautifully unbaked. You could make mini-pies in the little pans, freeze (just don't cut any vents) and then any time you felt like a pie just pull one out, cut the vents, bake it and enjoy. Baking time's a bit longer but otherwise there's no difference and you may notice the crust improves in the freezing.

I make pies, freeze solid on a tray then wrap in foil and bag up. Foil and bags can be re-used (trying to keep waste to a minimum).
