Our oldest daughter and son in law recently bought one and they love it. She says it helps her back. I have not seen it. She says each side takes a twin sized extra long fitted sheet.

I have a king size snb with two controls. I wish it was split with controls, now that I'm getting older. Sometimes I just want my head up higher to sleep. MY sleep trumps any snuggling but we're not all night snugglers either. (I like space :)
We have some kind of pad that came with the bed. I think it gives it a nice comfort. When we first inflated the beds I said "is this all?". A few weeks went by and my back was feeling considerably better, I was amazed. Dh can sleep in a soft bed I can sleep about 55 to 65 or more if needed. That's the best part.
I inflate the bed all the way, lay on my side and deflate it to my wishes. Ahhh so nice,,, something I could never do on my ordinary mattress.
A nice conventional bed or a sleep # isn't that much different in price. The split bed are more but at this point would have been a good choice too. A cheap mattress kills my back after a while so buying the SNM paid for itself.
Not everyone has the results I had but for us it was well worth paying for it.

Woody was just asking about the SN beds.... I hesitate to send off for the literature because I don't want to get calls or on a mailing list.

Toni- can you give me an idea of the cost you paid? I know I don't want a split bed. Just air-adjustable...

I slept on my parent's SNB...HATED the split down the middle, and I was sleeping alone.

DH had one before we were married. Yes, the split down the middle was horrible.
We got rid of it.

We have a king size, no split in the middle. I hate it, I can never get my number right because of three large dogs and a cat that sleep in differents spots on the bed every night!

Flamingo, I went on the Sleep Number site and they are having a sale. A queen (not split) set is $900. Very reasonable. I may have to look into that myself, but I don't want those telephone calls either.

We had a king-sized split Craftmatic bed and I hated it. In order for each side to raise/lower individually, you have to use twin sheets. And ours used extra-long sheets. Changing the sheets on that bed was time-consuming and we didn't like that "hole" in the middle. Now they have foam inserts you can put in them to avoid it. That bed cost $4000. And it wasn't that comfortable, either. What were we thinking? Well, we both have bad backs and would love to wake up without that stiff, achy feeling. Seems like all mattresses "guarantee" a good night's sleep and no back pain, but we haven't found one yet. I'll be interested in reading what other people have to say about the Sleep Number.

No one has mentioned mold or leaks, two problems that plagued quite a few owners when I was researching mattresses in 2007. Maybe the manufacturer has resolved these.

Have a queen-size, mid-level quality, no mold, maybe a slight leak. Have to adjust it once a week or so. The plastic smell irritated me at first, but the odor did not last too long. I like the bed fine, but wouldn't rave over it. Just like politicians, promises never seem to live up to reality.
I do like that it will not sag over time like older spring mattresses did. I like mine firm and it has stayed that way. There are two controls, so there is a "middle" but it doesn't bother me in the least, I often sleep across it.

We've had our sleep number for quite a few years. I actually can't remember how many/ maybe 9? Bought it from QVC I believe. It is the king with two controls. We really really like it. We used to wake up with a sore back, DH did, every single day, but the night after our frist "sleep" lol with the sleep number, there was no back pain. I have mine firmer than his side is. So glad we bought it. I can't remember the last time we adjusted our sides.

Love ours. Have had it since 2001. We also bought the foam/fleece thing that fills in the center so you don't feel any separation in the mattresses. We actually bought two twins and hooked them together which takes up a bit less space lengthwise.

Kat - I looked a the Dux bed - it better come with it's own masseuse! A single twin adjustable is $5700. Buying 2 of those is definately out of my realm of reality, but I would love to try it.

Salgal....It is called a bed bridge. I bought mine from Amazon. It basically consists of a foam pad that "bridges" the gap and connects to an elastic fleece that totally surrounds the two mattresses to hold the whole contraption together. (Not as bulky as that sounds.)

LOL... Salgal. I saw one for 8,000! lol I read some reviews and they weren't all that great!

I've had one for quite a few years - probably 10-12. A few people I know have them and raved about how great they are so I got one based on those recommendations. I think it's okay but not great. I've slept on much more comfortable beds in some hotels. Ours is a queen with dual controls. We haven't had any problems with mold, leaks, etc. I like that it has held up very well over the years - no sags or anything - it still functions like new.
