The grocery store had beautiful strawberries today. Not only were they pretty, but they were perfectly ripe AND they also tasted great. Hard to find at this time of year.

Years ago Debbie814 posted pictures and a recipe for filling strawberries with a cream cheese filling.

You can find the recipe on Deb's blog, Mountain Breaths.

The only adjustment I made was to increase the amount of powdered sugar and to dip the base of the strawberry in melted chocolate before piping in the filling.

These were so good.

I take these to every fourth of July cook out with a blueberry on top. Now I will be dipping them in chocolate!

I had a lifelong addiction to sweets. I knew it often did wicked things to my blood sugar levels (and my weight), but I wasn't motivated to deal with the issue until it was pointed out to me that my dangerously high triglycerides were caused by excess carbohydrate consumption. Apparently "excess" is a relative term, depending on the person in question. I was taking in more carbs than my body could handle. I didn't wean myself off sugar. I couldn't stop smoking that way, and I couldn't give up sugar that way. I was highly addicted to both, and the only way I could stop either was cold turkey. I can relate to your feelings of depression...I was in a bad mood for weeks (maybe longer), but when I reached the point where I was no longer craving sweets it felt sooo good! In the beginning I couldn't even think about life without ice cream or chocolate, so I had to concentrate on "one day at a time." Now, almost nine years later, I'm not even tempted. I keep ice cream in the house for other people, and when I dish it up I don't even lick the spoon. I've had to be really strict about this, though. While I occasionally indulge in other kinds of carbs--bread, etc.--candy, cakes, etc., are absolutely no allowed. Not even a bite. It's the only way I can be free of cravings, and it's well worth it. Incidentally, I haven't substituted artificial sweeteners. I can't tolerate Nutra-Sweet, I don't trust Splenda (it tastes way too sweet to me anyway), and I like to eat foods as close to their natural state as possible. When you don't eat "sweets," it's amazing how many foods taste somewhat sweet on their own. Best of luck! Susan

I'll try it - I bought a ton of box cake mixes when they were $1 a piece. I found this info - I guess it varies depending on what box mix but should be about right: Yum Yum Brownie Muffins (1 Muffin, or 3 minis - 180 calories, 2.5g fat, 37 carbs, 2.5g, fiber, 2.5g protein - 3 WW points) This super-simple 2-ingredient recipe is a Weight Watchers Fave! 1 box devilÂs food cake mix 1 can solid pack pumpkin (15 oz.) Directions: Mix the two ingredients together. Don't add anything else that may be mentioned on the box, such as eggs, oil, or water. The mixture will be very thick and you will be tempted to add in other things to make the batter smoother. DO NOT DO THIS AS IT WILL RUIN EVERYTHING! Place batter into muffin tins (or mini muffin tins) lined with paper, or sprayed with non-stick spray. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. Makes 12 regular or 36 mini muffins. When I taught home ec, this is the recipe we used and it's the only recipe for brownies I ever use. Brownies 1 stick butter 1 cup sugar 1 cup flour 1/4 tsp salt 1/2 tsp baking powder 2 eggs 2 HEAPING TBl cocoa 1 tsp vanilla. Melt butter in a square pyrex baking dish Sift dry ingredients Mix eggs, butter, dry ingredients bake 350 18 minutes You don't test them with a toothpick as these are more fudgie than cake like Cool completely and cut with a plastic knife I sometimes make a glaze with 1/2 c powdered sugar, 1 Tbl softened buter, 1/2 tsp vanilla, 1-2 tsp milk

If I crave something sweet...I eat whatever it is that I am craving (thinking) about. I just don't eat a lot of it. I have lost weight lately...past year....and did that by not dieting. I eat whatever I can think of that sounds good....but I don't eat a lot of anything. About half of what I would normally eat. From here on out, I eat whatever I want. We stayed several weeks following the flood, with a lady who is anorexic. She ate one or two bites, every other day. She is skin and bones but has an unrealistic view of herself and thinks she is fat. She thinks anyone who eats like a "normal" person is a "hog". I told her, at my age...what do I have to look forward to? Dying? I'm going to eat any danged thing I want, and as much as I want. I have found though that I feel better eating less....so I have cut down on portion size. Love that picture, Nicole! You looked fabulous, and I am sure you still do.

Good grief Ann, I haven't had my breakfast yet and don't think that a bowl of cereal is going to suffice :(
Those strawberries look outrageous! Wish we had ripe red berries right now, I'd make them instead of the cereal :)

Ann, I am NOT showing these to Ashley. She has to have one of those chocolate covered strawberries every time we go somewhere near a Godiva chocolate store.

Maybe I'll surprise her and make some for Easter dessert...

Gorgeous!! Those strawberries sure do look perfect. It's funny, but I would prefer them without the chocolate. I'd like to taste them with just the strawberries and that nice cream cheese. The chocolate sure does add to the presentation though. Yes, I know, most people would say it adds to the taste too..lol.

With chocolate and cream cheese, without chocolate, without cream cheese, without either, I'd like those beautiful berries any way you want to fix them. Also good dipped in sour cream, then in brown sugar. I'll be so glad when homegrown ones are ready.

I love the idea of strawberries and cream cheese.

I'm not a chocolate lover at all, so wouldn't add the chocolate.

I'd like to make these for a luncheon tomorrow, but I'd like to make them this evening because of time constraints tomorrow morning. Does anyone know if they will keep, refrigerated of course, for that length of time without getting watery? I suspect they will since the bottom cut end is covered in chocoate but can anyone confirm?

Annie and Ann, the GW still holds a special place in my heart. I became interested in GW several years ago when I was Winter Sowing. Then I was hosting a dinner party, and Ann came to my rescue by recommending stuffed pork tenderloin. Then I hosted a soup tasting party, and many members posted their wonderful soup recipes. Then I started gathering information from the Kitchen Forum when we gutted our kitchen. Then I moved on to the Bathroom forum when we gutted two bathrooms.

I came back to look at the strawberries, and I'll pop in again soon. Thanks for the mention Ann. Annie, I'll go poking around to see what you have been up to! I still make your wonderful salsa every fall.
