Aw, Tracey, I'm sorry. Naughty, naughty dog. Maybe it's Irish? Doesn't look much like an Irish Setter or an Irish Wolfhound, but I guess you never know. (grin)

If it helps at all, I made Boston Brown Bread last week while I was babysitting the dog of Ashley's fiancee. I put the loaf on the counter to cool and when I came back into the kitchen I found that Buster had eaten HALF the loaf of bread. Not all, half. Yeah......

So, I cut it up and used it for dog snacks, and fortunately, he didn't touch the other one.

Now I wonder if maybe he didn't like it. Darn.

Let the poor dog back in, he's sorry.

Just think of the calories he saved you! He did it all for you! And look at the bright side, he did not eat any cabbage. Now that might have you up tonight, like at 3 AM.

Oh, dang, that face is just too cute to be upset with.

He does look genuinely sorry:) And you can say with perfect honesty that the two members of the family two tried your bread, you and the pup, gave it five stars.

LOL.. Tracey! What's really cracking me up is that he's standing up on that thing so that he can see in the window easier..LOL. And that innocent look. Ha, don't buy it. I've seen it before. Be particularly suspicious when the pooch that lower lip out. Otoh, the soda bread looks...looked.. really good!

I have a giant mastiff that is so tall, he looks down at my countertops, it's a huge undertaking keeping him away from anything I make!

I have a Leonberger who can counter surf with the best of them, too.

Fortunately he's not nearly as food driven as most Leos, so it's not been a problem.

That's funny!

My parents had a shephard mix that ripped an almost cooked steak off the grill once. My mother was using up a variety of steaks before she ordered another half side of beef. There was a couple of sirloins and one T-bone. The dog grabbed the T-bone!

My previous dog Nikky didn't have height, but she did have reach.

I was in the basement and I heard her dancing and prancing in the kitchen overhead.

I ignored it for a few minutes, but then decided that she may have to go out, so I went up.

She heard me coming and hightailed it upstairs, which I thought was kind of odd...

Until I saw the butter dish on the counter in the kitchen.

I thought I had it pushed back far enough, but not quite. She had to stand on her back legs and REALLY stretch her upper body over the counter to get at it.

There were tooth and tongue marks all over what was left of the stick.

Such a face! Whats a little dumb flour, soda, raisins and whatever at least he left some.

Now you know that you won't be the only one in the house (or out) that eats soda bread.

I love the look on his face, it's like, "why blame me!"

Well I spoke too soon...my DH who is far less squeamish than I decided after he saw that the front of the bread was the only part missing that he was going to eat some. Sooo, three of us had soda bread:)The last time I made it, I don't think DH touched it but this loaf must have looked better. And yes, I let the dog back in....eventually. Overall, he's a very good dog but he is definitely food driven! Plus he has the chewing thing going on which has taken a toll on my couch cushions. And I swear when he cocks his head to the side and looks at me, he really is thinking "seriously, what's the big deal? I was hungry!"

Yeahbut at anytime did you communicate to Buster that it wasn't his?? How was he suppose to know?

And there-in lies the reason why I have a toy poodle! Not food driven...checks anything over before she eats it....but Kleenex? That's another story.
Let me know and I'll make him his own soda bread....might even lace it with chicken liver....if he will teach Latte to go when I let her out!!

He's obviously still a puppy, with the chewing going on in your house Tracey. You need eyes in the back of your head, and roller skates to keep up with him! He's just too cute!

Gina I was visiting friends lately who have 2 Bull Mastiffs, mother and daugher and they are huge!! The daughter is bigger than the mother. So friendly and affectionate.

Kframe I googled Leonberger....what a beauty!!!! How's the shedding and the grooming though?? The pics make me think they are as loveable as they come.

Be careful of letting that cutie-pie eat raisins or grapes...they can be toxic in larger quantities. I'm sure there were not that many in the soda bread, but if he has a tendency to raid the kitchen, keep raisins and grapes out of reach.

Kframe: Was your dog a Polish Lowland Sheepdog? Sometimes I wonder how my pup, well. . . he's 16 manages to reach as far as he does on counters. I think all these dogs have a thing for whatever is denied them on the counter, whether it's in the kitchen or in the bathroom. How could a hair brush with synthetical bristles possibly taste good?

BUT; here's one that will really make you cry. I had baked two of Ann T's cream cheese danishes, one was consumed by humans who then left the house. On return the other had been completely consumed by my four-legged friend. How he managed to pull that pan off the counter is beyond me. (He is smaller than normal for the breed, but I've seen his "reach and swipe" in action.)

Great pic! Looks like he's wondering what the heck he did that was so bad.

My old Siberian Husky ate the leftover pot roast off the counter and then ate a veal cutlet off my mom's counter.

One of the few good things about being pet-less is that I can leave food on the coffee table and find it's still there when I return.

Dogs are funny.

I am so glad it's not just Chance who gets himself into trouble! He's around 1 1/2. Not sure exactly as we got him from a kill shelter but they told he was part Lab so the chewing has come as no surprise. Linda, the ONLY thing Chance has not eaten is lettuce so I know he would love anything you made for him:) I knew to make sure he didn't get chocolate or garlic but I didn't remember raisins. I'll have to make sure they stay away.
