Is dinner ruined for sure?

LOL My mom is visiting and took it upon herself to roast the chicken. Well, I was planning on doing that, but okay ... then I remembered, Everything she touches when in the kitchen seems to turn into a recipe for disaster. She used to be a good cook but I'm not entirely sure what happened. I came downstairs and the bird was already in the oven. I asked if she had taken the bag of giblets out and she said no. I normally like to put in garlic or lemon in the cavity and just looked at her like "are you kidding?" That's only the first step in the directions. Will it still be edible? Will it take forever to cook? Should I just send her home now because I'm tried of expensive food being ruined? LOL (there was a pot roast incident earlier this week already ... *sigh*)

Sometimes I wonder how I ended up being such a reasonably good cook. LOL

Just take the chicken out of the oven and remove the bag and shove in whatever you want to....lemon, herbs, etc. Or is the bird already cooked? If so, just dispose of the bag of giblets. I'm sure your mom isn't the first to cook a chicken or a turkey with the bag left inside. It won't kill you.

Besides, your mom driving you nuts, how are you doing Phyllis. Hope all is well with you and the kids. Have you had the new baby yet?

I agree with Ann T, if the chicken is cooked, just toss the bag of giblets. If it isn't, take the bag out, toss it and put in whatever you want. And keep the salt and pepper on the table because she probably didn't season it anyway, LOL.

How ARE you and the kids, and please, please, please update us on the status of that new baby!

Just came across this zombie thread. The mushroom soup Anita uses intrigued me. But one can has over half your daily sodium allowance, and MSG. Both of these probably make a very tasty roast. I think you could wing it with the ingredients of the soup, and use less salt and no additives. The ingredients I would keep match some of what earlier poster use: beef stock, water, mushrooms, tomato puree, flour, oil, a bit of wine, and then perhaps a little extra salt vs what you'd normally use (though I like to salt things to taste at the table - I find we use less salt overall that way.) My kids always like it when they go to dinner somewhere and campbell's soup has been used in the dish. It's all about the saltiness, I think. I think I'll put a chuck roast on the grocery list today. Yum.

I'm thinking of buying my third house so I can be in remodel hell for at least three or four more years...do you think that sounds like a slight sickness? Oh and those darned hotels...hospitals...friends homes...oh ya, I notice! I always look at tile patterns in showers and critique. I'm big on the trim pieces and how they meet in the corner. The suite hotel we stayed in during the hospital stay had such a stupid kitcen layout. It was small of course, but they left silly gaps in the cupboards that just didn't need to be there if they just moved x to y location...blah blah The hospital had just had flooring layed and painting done. TERRIBLE work. They obviously cut in on corners and edges and left it sit for a few days (oh way way too much paint on the brush as well...the marks were deep) and then went by with a roller. The shadowing made me shudder. The flooring looked like the hotel the OP brought up....one guy started at one end and one at the other and left the cuts in the middle of the floor. Goofy!!! Now for the really sad part....my DS is two. He found that odd cut line on day 3 of the hospitalization and for two months he insisted on using it as a sort of balance beam, runway thing everytime we went down the hall. He'd always make a beeline for it and start either crawling on it, tightrope walking, or zooming an airplane on it LOL Do you think he's caught the bug and just wanted to point out the error???

Someone said that her "friend" was troubling her by checking her machine ... ... to learn that that person's friend elsewhere - was having a haircut! Seems to me that the person being thus ignored ... was getting clipped, as well. How about suggesting that one tie her hands, hobble her and put a blindfold on her, for the length of time that she absented herself to do the texting and, as far as she was concerned, done something like that to her friend-being-ignored while so doing. As for the guy who'd spent a minute and a half texting at table after being told to not ... I think that I'd tell him that, since he'd shut his brain off as far as we were concerned for a minute and a half ... that he was forbidden from eating for a minute and a half, after the texting finished. But that'd be no help - he'd just do more texting, the turkey (while his turkey was getting cold). Or - banish him to another room, immediately, to do his texting there: no more supper! That should set the fox among the chickens! ole joyful

Ya. What they said. Back when I was young and stupid (now I'm old and stupid LOL) I left the bag in a turkey. It came out fine, I tossed it after discovering it inside the cooked turkey. No harm no fowl....well actually no harm TO THE fowl! LOL (I take pleasure in amusing myself, no one else need laff at my silliness.) Wheeeee!

LOL Annie, I think you're right! What kills me is how she said she didn't know, when it says it right there! *sigh* Directions? What directions? LOL

How I and the kids are doing is worthy of a whole other thread entirely LOL.

Nice to see you pop in here PP, and I concur....just remove the giblets bag....BT-DT LOL!

And be nice to your mother when she does stupid things....she was nice to you ( I hope!) when you were young and did stupid things.

Stop back again some time and fill us in...
Meanwhile enjoy your chicken dinner....it's be fine without any seasoning.
