What size window to put in a window unit for garage?

I will be enclosing a carport to make an attached garage, and will be putting in a window unit (that will only be turned on when I would be in there!) It will be a single garage of about 250 ft^2, and with no insulation. I'd like it to be able to cool and dehumidify the space rather quickly, but not at the expense of a high price. I could care less about efficiency.

It seems that the minimum size window unit is 1/2 ton, which would seem to be enough, even for an uninsulated room (which would have at least some R value, no matter how low.) The question then becomes how big of a regular double sash window I would need to fit. It would seem that the window unit would need the window to have a clear space at least the size of the unit, plus some extra slack. How much extra slack would be needed?

Also, any recommendations for the window unit itself? OR any comments about my plan? Thanks
