jeld-wen windows
Comments (12)I have been in the window industry for 15 years, and installing Jeld-Wen windows for 10. (Personally I only install Jeld-Wen products, because it's my reputation and I don't want to be out money for repairs down the line.) So, let me just say that PROPER installation is EVERYTHING! It's really not for the average Joe. I even know alot of really good contractors, but their installation of windows is poor. This is a big investment and a big opening for wind a rain to get thru. I totally agree that ANY wood window that is installed improperly or not maintained well will deteriorate. And yes you can find stories of them just like the one on eBay about any window manufacturer. NO I'm not a sale rep. and I don't work for them or anything, I just happen to know alot about the product. Jeld-Wen is JUST the manufacturer, they do not install the product. It is important to do your homework and research ANY product and installer before purchase/hire. There are several different types of windows and options for ALL over the world. Just because a product is available to purchase or is sold in your area - DOESN'T mean that's what should be used! People will sell you what they think you want so they get the sale. I would say about 90% of the window failures I see are not from manufacturing. Is from improper installation OR use of the wrong product for the climate/area. If you must go to a Lowes/Home Depot type store - go during the day 9am to 4pm, weekdays. Anyone who nows the area they work in/and the manager are usally working during normal office hours. OR just ask for the Mill Manager....See Morenorco windows by jeld wen-feedback anyone?
Comments (23)When we built our house, the builder installed Norco windows. We have double hung, casements that open, casements that do not open, and a bow window. All of the windows have different problems. 1) The double hung allow heat to escape in the winter and ice forms between the double hung window and the storm window. This started happening during the first winter we were in the home and every winter since. Norco's solution....take off the storm window. 2) The casement windows had to be scraped, sanded, primed and painted annually on the exterior. The paint on double hung held up very nice. Again, they claimed no responsibility. I was told by someone other than Norco that the wood is treated to retard rot and that's why the paint won't adhere to the wood. I didn't use cheap paint. It was Benjamin Moore. 3) Eventually all of the casements rotted away on the exterior 4) If we had a driving rain, 75% of the casements leaked.5) The bench on the bow window rotted as a result from water seepage. 6) Two of the seals on the glass of the casements broke during the warranty period. Three seals broken shortly after the warranty ended. We recently replaced most of the casements with Pella Designer Series aluminum clad windows. They cost $22,000+ including the shades. They have issues too but not the same problems as the Norco windows. I wouldn't recommend Norco or Pella. Is there a decent window made anymore?...See MoreAnderson, Jeld-Wen & Eagles windows
Comments (3)I work for one of the above, which one is not important. I can tell you that I am not surprised that there is a differance in price. The reason is most likely because you are not quoting apples to apples. Andersen has three prpoduct lines, 200 Series, Narrowline and 400 Series. Jelwen also has three, Builders, Custom and Premium. Eagle only has one line. (Eagle was purchased back in 2005 by Andersen as thier high end window. Andersen is all vinyl clad, Jeldwen Builder and Premium and Alum Roll Form Clad, the Custom is extruded. Eagle is all extruded. Many features that Eagle offer are standard,to get some of the items as standard on the other two you need to compare with the Premium line and the 400 series. There are a lot more differances. Comments (1)"Has anyone dealt with Lux, Jeld-wen or Loewen? While we aren't necessarily looking for top-of-the-line (eg. Pella)" Lux is a mediocre at best product from what I recall, Jeldwen is lower than that. Pella in anything vinyl is on par with the Jeldwen. And Loewen does not make a vinyl product, a very good (high end) wood product however and light years ahead of Pella. If you truly want Vinyl, look at OKNA, Softlite, and several of the brands that are frequently mentioned here by the pros. Availability may be limited by your location however....See MoreShannon
