It's a good day for....CHILI

It's rainy and damp today..and we've got baseball practice times 2 tonight..so it's a good day to get a pot of chili going and then put in the crockpot to keep warm....

I picked up a bag of pintos..cuz the sodium content in canned beans is unreal..(I mean I figured but never paid attention!) So I'll quick cook those, and then start the toss this..toss that routine..It'll be pork for the meat..cuz eyez got leftovers. :o)

I'll make a batch of corn muffins AND Big Daddy Biscuits.

now what to put in the oven for dessert....

The rain is supposed to be here by this afternoon.

I'm going with the Taco Soup that KatieC posted on the "Most Loved Simplest..." thread.

Then I'll make a seafood casserole for tomorrow night when 2 of our 5 kids will be there for dinner. Make tonight, bake tomorrow.

Good Plan Deanna..It's definately moving south...I think it rained just about all night...and stopped only about 30 minutes ago.

Beans have boiled and are soaking..now to start on the breads.

Mike, The cake sounds good, I'll have to try it. The recipe reminds me of Dump Cake, where you just dump all the stuff in the pan & bake it. I haven't made it in a long time. My family will get nothing for a while & then I make 4 different breads or desserts in one day. Then when the weather clears up, back to the garden. Feast or famine. Marian, You're supposed to cook when it's raining & you can't be outside. As in "I just HAD to try this recipe instead of cleaning." or Make it, eat one piece (& one for DH) & share the rest with friends, neighbors, or someone you don't care for who is on a diet. ;) Linda

Can't remember ever NOT having pork & sauer kraut, with some kinda potatoes, on New Years Day. Sister has long been transplanted from the SE PA area to the DC area, so she also has black-eyed peas. Ive never had them... no particular reason, just haven't. Decided to cook/eat my way outta 2013 and into 2014. Thought I had a decent sized hunka pork in freezer, but NO? Did find a half rack of baby backs... cooked them yesterday and have been picking at them since last night. Since hunka pork I had was small (about half of a single pork tenderloin) went out this morning for something more substantial... left-overs only seem to get better IMO... lunch for tomorrow when back to school after a LONG break. Have some frozen periogies getting ready to be boiled up and added to porl/kraut. I like to cook pork a LONG time... till falling apart.

Stayed home all day today. Only accomplishment was to bathe GeorgyÃ¢ÂÂ¦..she got hold of a frozen dead fish from a nearby pond while DH was walking her. He thought it was a stick. Needless to say, she smelled pretty bad. We're going out to dinner shortly and then I have to play bridge. We're suppose to get 3 -4 inches of snow tonight so driving home should be fun. I do have 4-wheel and as long as it isn't icy, I'll be okay.

As good as chili sounds, I am ready for some spring/summer fare! LOL

The frigid snap finally broke and we have sunshine and temps in the 30's. Hope it's all uphill from here!

Nope....chili is for the beginning of the cold season...it should be spring and we should be dreaming of strawberries and asparagus...
I had a salad tonight....while looking out at the ice pile on my deck....which didn't diminish ar all today!
Do you suppose chili would have made it warmer and melted that ice?

The chili would make you feel better; the ice pile sorry chili can't help that....

We had 65 degree weather today and sunny....unusually warm; snow by the weekend.

Terri, I assume you are having similar weather to ours. I think that chili would really hit the spot. Even though it has been in the low 50's a few days , it is still damp and feels cold.

Well the high was 54..but the wind was blowing up a storm..LOL Atleast the rain pretty much stopped..few drops blowing by here and there.
The chili was perfect!!!
Hubby baked off the biscuits when he got home first.
Everyone ate well..

Linda's~I agree spring fare should be on the menu..I had grilled asparagas last week..and I have strawberries in the fridge...

My Taco Soup (with homemeade sour cream and Fritos) hit the spot too. Yes, it was 50 something, but rainy and windy so something warm still sounded good.

I had roasted asparagus last week too. Prices went from $3.99/# to $1.39 in one week. Back up to $1.99 this week, but that's still "do-able" for now. Another couple of weeks and MAYBE we'll see some $.99 sales! Then again, maybe not this year with the fuel prices up so high.

Stacy.......you should have brought your swimsuit and some steaks last Sunday.........it was 66 degrees here! I worked in the garden in shorts and tank top.....and I HATE to be cold...

Don't get me going...came home last night from Vegas...73 sunny and dry...to -7 C and at least a foot of snow...maybe more. Thankfully my sweetie pie Chris came over and shoveled the driveway and walk for us....he gets to stay in the will! LOL

Today is -2C sunny and it's melting but...it ain't over until the fat lady sings....lalalalalalaa........that would be the fat lady singing! Enough bring on Spring!

Ha ha Stacy..we don't drag the grill anywhere...it's always ready to go on the deck..I can grill all year long.
And it actually got up to 57 that day..but..you couldn't tell because the 30MPH winds coming off the water...chilled it down immensely!
