I still have my stool too :), and I agree on the universal access sink height, which is in between low vanity (31 ish) and tall vanity (36) height. Its hard to say without knowing the layout of the bathroom whether the wheelchair accessible sink is feasible (say if the bathroom itself, isnt.) If you are in the framing stage you may want to consider both the layout and such things as blocking for handrails and such. It may seem premature, but my parents moved into a new house when I was in first grade and still live there. Now at 81 and 85 there are some real accessibility issues with the baths (and stairs) in a house that my parents refuse to leave. Watching my mother navigate some parts of the house is like watching someone climbing a rock wall...its not fun. I think you are really taking a lot of consideration if you are considering making modifications for your young children, so, look into making some accomodations for your parents (and yourself!) as you age, while you are in the process.

I have three boys and I don't believe I was naked around them after they were 2-3. I don't remember my husband running around naked with them either. I am assuming you only have one bathroom? I've always felt in marriage and life you need to pick your battles, and quite honestly, I think everyone is making way too much out of this whole issue. I don't personally see an issue with him being against her seeing him naked, and I think she's old enough to shower by herself. Since this is an issue for DH, then I'd stop doing it. I wouldn't make a big deal out of it with your daughter telling her Daddy thinks it's wrong etc. If it's once in a blue moon that you have to shower together, then fine, but it sounds like it happens more often than that and that's why he's made an issue out of it. I'd tell your daughter that's she's a big girl now, and she can shower all by herself, you'll be in the bathroom if she needs help and leave it at that. Call me a prude, but I don't think it's necessary for kids and parents to be nude around each other. I don't think it will create a sexually stunted child to have personal modesty and be private about bathing. I also am not a huge fan of pubic showering with boys or girls. I know it was humiliating for my sons to shower after practices because they weren't as developed as the other boys their age and they felt very uncomfortable.

Jan, You are a kind and compassionate woman. Thank you for caring about all of us. In laws can destroy relationships. Although my marriage was destroyed by many factors, the learning experience has enabled me to help my daughter save her marriage from her jealous mother in law. She wanted to keep getting my support and not supporting me in return, so I am now pretty much estranged from her and her sister. They model after my irresponsible, lying, abusive X. The estrangement drags me down, but I try to keep on going despite it. I can only change/improve myself and my life. They are free of to live their own lives. I have 2 grandsons who live out of state and my daughter has not denied me a relationship of sorts with them. This is not what I expected at all, as I devoted my all to raise them. I am very sorry for your heartache, but adult children seem to go their own way and they do not need us anymore. Some want us, like your daughter wants you, but sons seem to either be devoted to their Mothers, while others cling to their wives. My Mother was loved by all and she handled the son/daughter in laws by accepting invitations when invited, not asking them for anything, being respectful and nice to all and letting them live their own lives as they saw fit. I am not my Mother, nor a doormat, so I have a much tougher time with relationships because I express my views and try to protect myself from abuse; I have a few close friends and relatives, but not many. Please let us know how you are doing and if you find a way to mend the rift.

Yes, what 'spectrum'? There was nothing 'wrong' with my son. He had no disorders. (I think they have created all these dysfunctions & disorders to make excuses for obnoxious, unruly or bizarre behavior. I believe there are truly disorders, don't get me wrong, but I think parents are too quick sometimes to label their kid with a disorder to explain away bad behavior) When I was growing up, I remember one or two kids (both boys) in grade school that clearly had hyperactivity and had trouble behaving or concentrating in school. They were very disruptive to the class. That's two kids in 7 years of grade school (K-6) and I'm not sure either of them was ever 'diagnosed' with ADD or ADHD, but I think one should have. Fast forward to present day and there are probably several kids in each class in every school that are 'diagnosed' ADD/ADHD or some other 'disorder' and many are on medication. I think it's outrageous when a parent insists on medicating a child because they don't want to be patient and 'parent' the child. My SD's BM tried for almost a year before she moved away to get doctors to diagnose her daughter ADHD and prescribe medication to 'calm her down'. We've had SD with us for almost a year and even before when we had every other week, we never had the behavioral problems so bad that we thought she needed medication. We used behavioral modification techniques and old fashioned consistency and viola, she is 'cured'. I'm not knocking anyone that has a child that is truly ADD/ADHD but I do think it is over diagnosed and it's shameful if a parent chooses to medicate a child that needs nothing more than consistent discipline and patience.
