Fillet Mignon

Is it just me or does beef tenderloin taste like liver? I made a dinner for our anniversary and figured I would make smothered fillet mignon and it was like I was seven yrs old all over again. I think this was about the last time my mother tried to make me eat liver. Maybe it's a texture thing? Did I prepare it wrong? I bought it because of the high price tag thinking oh, it costs more, must taste better too. I did buy a tenderloin roast before (which is another story altogether) but it was so dressed up the meat wasn't really noticed so I don't really know what the meat is like.
