I love the Three Guys from Miami! I have their Entertaining Cookbook (a gift from a winderful Forum friend) and I have used it many times in the warmer months. The drink section is especially entertaining LOL!

Actually, with warmish weather for this weekend, I think I may pull it out for some appy ideas.

Three Guys from Miami published my Polvorones recipe. Soon after, they became rich and famous with their cookbooks.
That's the only connection I have to the royalties.

But I'm still happy for them. Yes, I am...sniffles

Judith - Who knew? I thought Mr. Dove maybe an anomaly, but I've since learned that age is not all that uncommon. Yes,I am looking forward to doing something with the wire vases, they were my bargin from Lillian Vernon. They were marked down to $7.98 @, and I had a $10.00 off certificate. I couldn't resist. Karen - Houdi and Mr. Dove do get along, not bossom buddies, but because their cages are next to on another, Houdi gets upset when the dove is gone. I also let them visit one another from time to time, Mr Dove's idea of a good time is to poke Houdi with his beak, which Houdi doesn't like, parrots are preeners by nature. Houdi will take so much and give a warning scream/ warning nip back to the dove's head or go up to another perch out of poking distance. I have always wanted a Cavalier King Charles spaniel, I have enough of the ceramic ones. LOL I do indeed have a dog, Selena, that I inheirited. She's a big collie/shepard mix and gets along really well with cats and the birds also - Miss Kitty is her buddy. Selena Miss Kitty and friend

Bellsmom, :-). One dish I didn't take pictures of. It was gobbled up too soon. Shopping at Whole Foods, I scored big time. they were selling large globe shaped artichokes. The chokes came with 10 inch long stems. People were breaking off the stems and left them in the bin. I took two chokes and bagged all the discarded stems, 4 lbs? The cashier only charged me two artichokes. If you watch Peppin's shows, you know how often he uses vegetable stems. Also, often at farmers markets, you can get beet stems/tops for free. About the asparagus stems. Those are Italian purple asparagus Ã¢ÂÂVioletto d' AlbengaÃ¢ÂÂ variety, They are larger, sweeter and not as fibery as the green ones. Really nice! dcarch

Some of the best cooking I've ever experienced was in Cuban restaurants. Not so terribly exotic, just very high in quality.

Last time I was in Miami I ate at a Cuban place on Lincoln road. You know those tostones, the double-fried plantains? This place had made a little bowl out of the tostones and filled it with a tomato-based shrimp sauce.

Imagine the best shrimp creole you've ever had, in a bowl made of the most sinful carbohydrate you've ever had...OMG it was wonderful.

I described this dish to a Puerto Rican friend who said, 'Hey, that's not cuban, it's mofongo. A Puerto Rican dish.'

Whoever invented it, it was fantastic.

And I always will try Caldo Gallego if it's on a menu...
