I get so much enjoyment here. It just warms my heart to know that so many of you have truly become my very best friends. I hate to mention names for fear I will forget somebody, but you, all my "serial killer" friends know who you are. but I have really grown as a cook just from being a member of this forum. From riverrat (Karen) I learned how to make the best darn gumbo in the world. It really is "slap yo' Mama" good! Thank you Karen.
From Lindac I have learned, oh heck, a million things. She is even happy and willing to take my phone calls when I have a question. Thank you Linda.
From Ann T I have learned many of the more technical ways of doing things, and she is also always there with an answer when I am stumped. Besides, her caramel rum sauce has become a staple in my home on apple cake, and on bread pudding, which I always hated until I tried hers. Thank you Ann.
From Jessy I leanred how to laugh, and how to make a killer lime chipotle sauce/dip and some Asian type foods that are heavy on veggies instead of meat. I also learned what a persimmon tastes like from her. AND, I discovered secrets about her "toolbox" in the garage, LOL. Thank you Jessy. From Peppi I learned how to make a fabulous herbed butter, and a cheese dip, and a decadent rib rub, and all kinds of awesome hearty German type meals, AND how to drink wine like a pro, LOL. Thank you Peppi. From Cathy I learned how to do my all-time favorite salad...Prosciutto/Fig salad with fig balsamic (better than an orgas*). She also taught me about Ensalada Caprese and Pregnancy salad, both of which I now adore. Thank you Cathy. From David I learned how to make my favorite soup of all-time: Roasted garlic. Dang! I get hungry just thinking about it. Thank you David. From Nancy I learned how to EAT the most fabulous, mouth-watering, buttery rich croissants I have ever eaten. I will probably never buy them again. Nancy has graciously fed me every summer for several years when I get up to northern Michigan. Thank you Nancy.
From Booberry I learned the appreciation of beautiful jams. Her grape jam made me realize what a fake Welch's is, and here jalapeno jelly, well, I have to be truthful, it probably tasted good, but I just couldn't eat it cause it was too pretty. Thank you Boo. From May I learned an appreciation of the art from of drinking my breakfast: remember those Mimosas followed by Bloody Mary's? Thank you May. From compumom I learned an appreciation for paella. when I visited her in Hollywood, she let me have a taste of hers. I became so hooked that she sent me a paella set. (Besides, we have our fundraising in common, and my hubby thinks she is awesome) Thank you Ellen. From gardengirl I learned an appreciation of local wines and cheeses. Heck she found local wines and cheeses that I never heard of. And her food blogs are awesome. Thank you Kathy. From Annie1991 I learned how to appreciate organic food, and how to can, and how much I really loved homemade corned beef hash. (Annie, I wish I had some right now) I also learned so much about bread baking that I Make bread aALL the time. Thank you Annie. From chase I got an all-time favorite recipe: Salmon quiche in a walnut crust. This is "died-and-gone-to-heaven" food. Thank you Sharon. From Teresa I learned how to bake bread, and we make her "easy pizza" ALL the time. She was a great bread taskmaster. Thank you Teresa. From katiec, along with Annie, I learned how to can my own food and keep my family safe whie doing so. AND, I never had huckleberries until she gave me some.
I have met many more forum friends, and have an appreciation of all of them. You know who you are. Just cause you are not mentioned above does not mean I don't like and appreciate you. Heck, I even appreciate the cupcake princess! From Lars I got the idea of making caramel filled chocolates in Madeleine molds. Those went over REALLY big. Thank you Lars.
And for those many, many people who I got awesome recipes from, even though I never met you...Thank you! I love this place, and love the new friends I have made here. thank you all for all your help. I truly feel that I am a great cook bnow because of all of you.
