Do I throw this plant out?
Comments (1)Most vrieseas will eventually form pups. However, Vr. splendens, the common one with chestnut colored bands on the leaves, will grow only one pup and sometimes not even that. Hang on for awhile, don't give up hope until you are sure the old plant is dying....See MoreShould I Harvest Now Or Give up & Throw out
Comments (27)Did a web SEARCH and found the following site as the first hit regarding SERENADE- http://www.serenadegarden.com/howto/FAQ.html Even on eBAY can you find this product. http://cgi.ebay.com/Serenade-Organic-Garden-Disease-Control-Spray-32-oz-RTU_W0QQitemZ320264801834QQcmdZViewItem?IMSfp=TL0806191277r7250 Most 'hardware' stores cater to people who use common (and mostly non organic based) chemicals in a garden, and would not sell such ORGANIC BASED products, so you would probably never see this there, unless another cusomer asked for it and they ordered it special. To find such products, you would have to locate sources that sell ALTERNATIVE products for ORGANIC control. The internet is obviously quite powerful in giving many choices of sources. Bt, is a good example as is Neem. Neither might not be found in many hardware stores. Hardware stores (True Value, ACE, etc.) carry canning jars. BIGGER hardware stores ike Home Depot and Lowes, do not. Its a matter of popularity too. Most home gardeners may not even bother with trying to be organic when they grow things. Here, I spend extra time and money on organic alternatives to harsh chemicals. Herbs are no different. I wouldn't want to add a chemical base like Miracle Grow to herbs, or spray them with nasty refined chemicals. One place that I DO know that carries MANY organic products is Peaceful Valley and even though they are far away on the west coast, I still buy quite a lot from them. Needless to say , if I could find ALL the organic products in a LOCAL garden shop, I would become their best customer!...See Moreshould i throw them out?
Comments (6)These cuttings were taken a month ago: Here they are now: Key is: 1) High Air Ventilation - They are placed near a window with a fan oscillating 2) Some Moisture, but leaves not directly touching them until roots are seen. - I made a mistake at leaving them on top of a wet tray of turface/soil, but after drying them, the under surface wet soil does encourage humidity and roots growth. This is the result 3) Light - They received bright light, but fairly shaded. We get trees outside as shade, as my apartment is at a rather lower level, an exterior awning, with bug screen further filtering sunlight. They get max 1 hour of direct filtered sunset light. Now I water them by submerging the tray for a couple of seconds (Tray has holes), and remove it. Note the top layer of soil is not wet, moisture will keep a roots alive, and they will naturally find their way downwards. Mayo is right, getting healthy leaves cuttings are crucial. How you attain them, and how plump they are will affect propagating. You will need some portion of the meristem when plucking the leaves off, then you will see roots and sprouts. Mine were obtained from a plant that had rotted roots, some leaves were already affected by the rot, and they didn't survive. I would like my success rate was about 70%. I had to toss about 8-10 leaves that just turns black and die. Best of luck! Bernard...See MoreI need some help figuring out how to lay out this kitchen
Comments (66)If you use lisa_a's with 2 entrances to the pantry it may just vent itself easily as I'd imagine the pocket entry door to it from the garage may stay open or ajar frequently. You could possibly fit it in the bump back to match the entrance stairs. Fridges in garages are pretty common around here but we have more issues with freezing temps than overly hot. Otherwise I'd put it in that spot in the garage where the writing says small appliances for inside the kitchen. That's not far of a walk at all....See MoreUser
