Where can I find old fashion subway tiles?
Comments (19)mtnrdux, I think you could really tell the difference between the Subway Ceramics version and newer subway tile if you had them installed side by side. The American Olean 3x5 I have from Lowes in my bath are perfectly nice, but they aren't quite authentic in terms of flatness - they have a bevel to them that reflects the edges and makes them look more modern. Schnauzer, both Emser and Lanka Tile make a nice white subway that's slightly less $$ than the Subway Ceramics version. You could also try Iron Gate tile....See MoreNeed to replace hall lights
Comments (94)And they've already shipped. Guess the QS (Quick Shop) designation is not a joke. So glad that's over. But also glad you guys are willing to bounce ideas around. Mayflowers' Capitol fixture definitely gave me pause, less $$$ too. The decider was the greater wattage potential in the Thurman. Basically, that was it....See MoreReplacing wood parquet floor in high rise condo
Comments (9)Sounds questionable. Variations from 2 to 3 inches are rare. Chances are you don't have them, but even if you did, putting down parquet wouldn't disguise them. Get a long straight board and/or a level and set it on sections of the floor. Making a blanket statement about all concrete floors being out of level is inaccurate. The parquet in the unit was probably done because it was an inexpensive wood floor, not to deal with a subfloor issue. Floating floors are very sensitive to level however. They generally use the same specification as architects which is level to 1/8" within 10'. Humps in the floor can cause areas to be bouncy. This is generally easily fixed by doing some floating....See MoreCeramic wall tiles, slightly under 6", how to find replacements?
Comments (10)My husband has installed a lot of tiled shower surrounds in his construction career and also repaired and replaced his own tiled shower surround and completely gutted and redid the tub/shower surround at our last house. The problem is that if we remove any of the tiles, if we can't find replacement tiles of the same size, they won't fit in the open spots no matter what their color. And since we just want to replace the broken ones, we'd rather not take out a whole lot of them in an attempt to create a new pattern. At that point it would become more of a gut job rather than a repair job of a few tiles. We aren't that fond of our current shower to put that much effort into it at this point. We don't want to redo the current shower because long-term plans call for removing it in favor of a soaking tub. Since that would be part of a complete bathroom gut, we just aren't there yet with time, money and devotion to this house long-term. I know this is a common issue. I had some friends who had a lovely shower with gorgeous antique porcelain tiles from a famous tile house, but a leaky shower pan, and they could not find any replacements so were stymied as to how to fix it without ruining it. So they just used on of the other two showers in the house....See Morewoodfloorpro
