Help Needed with Foyer & Main Hall Lighting
Comments (11)Thank you everyone, looks like #1. is the favorite. :) Annie, it is 14" height by 10" wide. There were a couple other lights I liked but the lighting designer was concerned they were too tall with the 9' ceilings, she seemed more happy with this choice. Lol. I will take your advice and hang some bags to see the scale at the house tomorrow. That's a good idea. :) I wasn't to sure if choice #1 was too funky looking, like something that would remind people of some of the crazy lights people hung in the 70's, lol. But even when I showed hubby he seemed to like it. Usually we picked lighting more modern and in chrome or brushed steel so this is a big change. My one son asked me why the new lighting is so gothic, lol....See MoreHallway light replacement - LBL Lania Grande
Comments (10)Update on the light. First, this is one spectacular light and the light output from the LED bulbs was more than sufficient for the space. That said - it did not work for the space. This was DH's Saturday morning - take old light down, reattach current box so that it would be able to bear the weight (18 pounds), then temporarily install light using shortest rod (so I could see it in place). Then, take down light, pack away, and reinstall original light. SO productive! JudyG and Fori - You nailed it. I could not bear the exposed bulbs overhead. Second, this light will look best in a really bright space; this hallway is fairly dark. Third, the light is malformed - one side was almost an inch taller than the other, which means heavier as well. The support rod hangs down from the middle of the canopy and swivels/pivots - meaning there is no way to adjust. Remember - all these are with the light bottom at 24" (it would actually be much higher). This picture doesn't look bad with Shadow (indoor cat) wondering why the door is open... This isn't bad (other than big and low): But here, lighted, the bulbs take center stage. When the light is on, the bulbs play a larger role, which I like less (also you can see the tilt here) Ah, but in natural light, the honey comb is so beautiful. Note almost 11" height here (and almost an inch of space between the wire and the glass at the bottom): And here you see 10". Can you tell I really love the light and would have liked it to work out? It would be stunning for the right space (over a table). Back to the drawing board and another productive Saturday in DH's future.......See MoreNeed help finding hallway light to match
Comments (2)Since they're hallway lights, rather than invest a lot of money in them, you might consider focusing instead on making the all the hall lights visually disappear when not on -- just have all the hall lights match and let the room lights you've already chosen take all the glory....See MoreBlank Slate: Hall & Stairway in need of a new light fixture & art
Comments (12)The wool runner is made by Prestige Mills, USA, the design is "Findley" and the color is "Mineral". We had it installed by C. G. Coe & Son in Bethesda, MD. who did an amazing job. I'm really happy with it - it feels great to walk on and like its going to hold up & wear well. My cat likes it as well! He was sliding all over the bare wood stairs when he'd run up & down them playing... now he can run up the stairs with reckless abandon!...See MoreBunny
