TGIF 3/14 - Happy Birthday Albert Einstein!

Yup, today is Albert Einstein's birthday. Its also the first three digits of 'Pi', 3.14xxxxxx. At our Jr. High, the Math department brings in dozens of apples pies from Marie Callendar's and all the kids get a slice. There is also a competition to see who can memorize the most digits! I think someone got up to 200 in recent years. I helped once, that was enough, can you say 'Pi chaos'?

Saturday I'm helping shop for our synagogue's Purim carnival. Saturday night DS #1 wants to go to Musha, the Japanese restaurant Lars introduced us to, for his report card reward.

Clink with a latte but I could use a stiff one!

Sunday I'll be crazy - bringing the kids to the synagogue for their teacher's aide jobs, and then our play is that afternoon/evening. This time I volunteered to be a stage manager. Shoot me. I should have stuck to the five pages of dialogue as one of the characters. I have to figure out how to get dinner in the kids - they are in it - during the six hour stretch of tech rehearsal and play. PBs & J etc.

Morning All!!

Today I'm working answering the phones for the appliance company and they've also got me working tomorrow.

Tomorrow night I am hosting a Couples Night Out at my house and having the Karaoke Man coming. So far I've gotten 36 rsvp's to this event. Not sure how I'm gonna pull this off while working today AND tomorrow too but somehow I will!!!!

Holy shmoly Jessy, I'm tired just reading your weekend plans, have fun!

Home alone for me. I have to attend to some family business with my sorry a$$ brother so Clive has gone up to the cottage on his own. It's Spring Break so the lake will be jumping with cottagers. He's hoping to bum a couple of dinner invites! LOL

My GF and I are going out for Chinese tonight. Tomorrow duty calls . Sunday I think I'll take a little road trip to my favourite hooking shop and buy a new canvass.

I guess it's part of the illness, but she sends herself into a panic and a depression whenever all of our lives get busy at the same time and then she thinks she's dying. My inlaws were here last weekend, and my DB was busy putting in new countertops and my aunt left on vacation. So, no visits for 2 days straight and then we get the phone call that she has decided she wants to go back to the hospital...sigh. A new dr at the ER looks at xrays of her very compromised lungs and decides she has pneumonia and admits her. sigh. So, I am off to visit. sigh. :-) Stacy

LOL San...Well it's our only bye weekend for Youth Football..so it's a lazy day..Hubby was going to go into work..but apparently the bed was to comfy..and he couldn't pull himself out...~Darn it kinda..coulda used that overtime $$~ I've been out in the garage rummaging and trying to figure what I can get myself into. LOL... I, like San, know what should and needs to be done..but I'm sure I can find something that will make me forget.. I have a few doors to knock on, to see if they will allow me to remove apples from their property that just are falling to the ground..if so that'll keep me a bit busy for a while. LOL The dog and I have been taking walks in the am...and she's been my shadow all day..she's like hey...I'm ready..where's the leash..I guess it won't hurt to put on the socks and shoes, grab the leash and get a quick stroll in... Have a wonderful weekend everyone...Football is always on here...but I only like to watch if I can watch my children..They don't play on tv YET......

Yep, Jessy, that's the book. I liked it. May, here's the recipe for the salad. I have no idea if this is really Robert Redford's recipe. But anyway you can think of him for inspiration when you make it! Robert Redford's Terrific Green Olive Salad 9 ounces frozen artichoke hearts [I use more; canned work, too] 1 cup boiling water 1 head romaine lettuce, torn up 1 cup mung bean sprouts Dressing 1/2 cup vegetable oil 1/4 cup wine vinegar or 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice 4 teaspoons fresh dill, chopped 1 tablespoon chopped parsley 2 scant teaspoons granulated sugar 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard 1 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon fresh ground pepper 1 cup pimento-stuffed olives Plunge artichoke hearts in boiling water; remove pan from heat and let stand only 2 minutes. [Or use canned.] Drain and chill. Combine artichoke hearts, romaine, bean sprouts and olives. In small jar with tight-fitting lid, combine vegetable oil, wine vinegar, dill, parsley, sugar, salt, mustard and pepper. Shake well to combine. Just before serving, pour over salad and toss until well coated. I don't use all the dressing. Serve with barbecued steak or grilled rainbow trout.

This TGIF thread is a new thing for me. Maybe I wasn't here when it was done before. Saturday I have to get up at 5 am and drive to Salem to judge at a high school Speech & Debate tournament all day, then drive a carful of kids including my daughter, back to the school. DD is really into S&D so we have to be driver, judge and sometimes chaperone for several weekends a year, and I'm just "lucky" this was my turn. Sunday I haven't figured out. I will probably take a bike ride in the morning. The leaves are turning here, and it is pretty in our urban parks. There is a local park, rather grandly named "Mount" Tabor, that is covered with big trees, grassy fields, scenic slopes, and a road that spirals to the top of the "mountain" (shhh, it is really just a hill). My usual choice for a quick Sunday ride is to cycle over to Tabor, ride from the bottom to the top, zoom to the bottom, then repeat, over and over. This is called "hill laps" and is sort of like doing reps in a gym, but a beautiful green foresty gym with sweet fresh air. I will be done by mid-morning and then go home and do some cooking. If I feel like more riding and less cooking, I might cycle over to Forest Park which is the largest urban park in the country. This is miles and miles of dense northern rainforest, trails and dirt roads twisting among ferns and mossy old trees. This would be incredible mountain bike terrain, except that bikes are restricted to the dirt roads, but those are reasonably fun too. A friend lives by there, maybe he'll ride with me and then we can have a coffee at the best French bakery in town, St Honores. Or, there is a mountain biking area I haven't been to yet, a not-too-long drive from my house, and now that my van is finally running, I might take the mountain bike out there to check it out. This weekend will be one of the last nice ones in Portland, so mustn't let it go to waste. The next time I take a Sunday ride, it'll be with a rain jacket and neoprene gloves. I did one of those a couple weeks ago, when it rained two inches that weekend. Just a few laps on Tabor felt suspiciously like self-harm, so I high tailed it for home where it took an hour in a blanket by the fire to take the chill off. No big weekend plans here. Maybe dinner out tomorrow night, my choice since it's a B-Day dinner we didn't do a couple of weeks ago. Can't wait for spring!

Happy TGIF to everyone from the nut house. We had an ultrasound and there is a baby in the uterus so now to start to plan for an addition to our family. I am getting excited about the baby to come. We have decided to not find out what the baby will be, I know that it will be a long 9 months and I want something to look foreward. The girls are back from my sis and parents and just love the new oven, I will post a pic later. I have a bun in the oven and hope to have some banana bread in the oven too, hope baby doesn't mind lol.

Staying in we are expecting rain, freezing rain and 2 inches of snow. And I got my garden seeds that I ordered to start going through and planning my garden. DH said that I wasn't going to be able to garden and take it easy, what doesn he know:) THe girls will be helpers. Rhiannon planted some apple seeds and now we have 4 apple seedlings with 3 sets of leaves, now we need to find new pots and separate them.

Also waiting to see who gets my box and to see if the fertility is spreading. We had several babies last year I think I am the only one so far this year.

Good Morning everyone!

Busy crazy weekend. We have family coming in to stay with us till Monday. I have the St. Joseph Alter on Sunday at our church. This morning I'm going to a little old Italian ladys house to learn how to make the bread symbols. I think I might be being prepped for the job and I'm not supposed to know it. LOL! I did make the traditional Italian fig cookies the other day.

Jessy, I remember the Pi chaos when my kids were in middle school.

Shaun, Have fun at your party. Sounds like one that I would enjoy!

I see Jessy beat me to the 'puter this morning, obviously neither of us were getting much sleep!
I'm finally feeling much better, the sinus infections just hung on until the doc mixed my antibiotic with prednisone. I can finally breathe normally, but it shot my sleep pattern to he!!
Work is crazy right now, ramping up to a big fundraiser. I have lots of talented parents right now, but I still need to be everywhere and oversee everyone! Invitations hit the mail yesterday, so that chore is over, but the auction catalogue, prizes, tribute journal, honoree speeches, decor etc are looming. Plus the boss is taking off for almost 3 weeks before! She's incredibly helpful,so that isn't great timing!

DSIL is off to Chicago yesterday for what looks like a longish job. That means DD and DGS's will follow soon. At least this time the film is in this country!
DGS Mason was one yesterday! i missed being with him due to work and the late demands of the job. Sunday DD is going ahead with the plans for a little afternoon party for the family and a couple of close friends. That shoudl be fine. Both boys have had sinus infections too...gee wonder who gave it to me? LOL
Dinner tonight? I have no idea! Last night was steak, grilled asparagus and some other assorted veggies. I munched all day with our volunteer parents so I really shouldn't have eaten at all, but I think DH would disagree!
Anyway, at this hour I'll just clink with my synthroid pill and water. Not very exciting, eh?

Spring is finally beginning to show here! Had a glorious day yesterday, temps almost hit 50! Now if all this snow would just melt so I can plant something! LOL

Jessy, your weekend is just too busy for me to even comprehend at this hour of the morning!

Good Morning Everyone !!! I'm off to the Dentist, and then to the fabric store. I want to sew a new dress for Hawaii. I though I would sew a Sarong dress for the Luah. Well, for the first time in over a month I have No Plans for the weekend! Yeah!!! I think I might bum around Kohls a bit tomarrow. This is the third day in a row where the temp will be over 50, yesterday it hit 59! It is starting to feel like spring! My son went down to U of I today (no school today) to look at the dorms. I'm hopeing he makes his decision soon.

Stacie, I just saw the picture of your new stove! Beautiful! Are you going to share your banana bread with us here? I would go good with my latte!

My son has a birthday party tomorrow. It is at a gymnastics place. We have a kids party every Saturday of this month. Last week was one of those blow up places. I don't know how a 2 hour party ends up consuming my whole day -but it does. The toddler party circuit is exhausting! LOL Really - I am glad to be out of the house. What else am I doing anyway? LOL Looks like DH may be working so I will be on my own. Sunday I have a marathon cleaning session planned. Hopefully DH will be home and can take the kids out.

I bought this bedding for spring. It has much more detail in person but still very neutral. I really love it and such a deal, dahling!

Maggie, I really like that bedding set! Kohl's is having the same sale they have every week "The biggest sale of the year". My husband always wants to know how they can do that without giving the stuff away by the end of the year. LOL!

Maggie, my brother is having a birthday celebration tomorrow also - we are going to Wizard World at noon, and I might go to a Seth Green conference in the afternoon, while DB goes to a different conference. I don't know much about the conferences (or anything else), but I think I might want to get dressed up a bit for this one. I was very under dressed for Comicon in San Diego last year.

DB's birthday is Sunday, and so maybe we'll go out to brunch, or something. I think it might rain, in which case I might make croissants.

TGIF to one and all!!

Busy weekend here too. I bought a 150 gallon aquarium listed on Craig's list today. Nephew and a few of his buddies helped me get it out here to the house. Just got back from treating them to dinner at a local Tex-Mex place for their help.... there off to do who knows what. I don't want to know they are all Seniors this year...really they are good kids.

I have family coming next week for Easter, I'm hosting for the first time in forever for this holiday.... so I have a ton of cleaning, shopping, baking, and everything else that goes with hosting 25 for the weekend. Thankfully half of that number lives here in the metro area. I can't wait to see DS, BIL and their five kids from Minneapolis. Our latest addition Leah is already 1.5 years old and walking. Some of you may remember her and the Turducken(from Karen a swap or two ago) from the Thanksgiving before the last one. She's a cutie for sure!

I'm raising a glass to all and one while I tackle the sheets and blankets that DM says must be washed and freshened up.
