First off but never hurts to ask.. You do have the rubber gasket installed correctly. It goes over top of the blades and sits on top of the blade base assembly. It doesn't go into the screw on bottom part with the blade assembly over top of that.

If that's ok.. try turning the machine on when it's absolutely totally dry.. is there a high pitched whining.. that could mean the bearings in the blade assembly are shot. Still even if it doesn't whine could still mean the same and liquid is making it's way thru the blade stem and out the bottom in which case you'll need to order a new blade assembly.

That happened to mine, I threw it out and bought a new one. I know,I'm lazy. . .

Yes Pk, the assembly is on correctly. Every time DH puts it together I have to redo it to make it right. LOL I'll try what you suggested. If I need the whole assembly I will just buy another blender because it cost me $15.00 to buy the washer and get it mailed to my house. I don't want to throw good money after bad. And I won't buy a Cuisinart because I haven't used that one enough for it to go bad.

Anyone have any suggestions as to the best brand blender to buy?

Beverly, we bought a Hamilton Beach at least 20 years ago and it still works fine. I don't know how it functions compared to more high end blenders but it works for me.

I'd say tried and true seems to be Hamilton Beach..

$15 for a 99 cent ring you could have bought at any hardware store !!!!!!!!! Shame on you.

Find yourself a trusty vintage metal Oster at a thrift store or yard sale for about $5. there's millions of them out there and surprisingly most have hardly been used. You can buy replacement sealing rings, blade assemblies, jars etc if need be. Plus they're way cooler and have bigger motors
All the new ones including that Cuisinart you have are made in China including HB and even KA now. The only KA product still made in the USA is the stand mixer. I have about 50 or more of them LOL

If you don't have a stick blender, seriously consider getting one. They're a joy to use. They eliminate most handling and gushering of hot liquids because the blending is done right in the pot. Small amounts can be pureed in the accessory container which usually is included with the blender. Clean-up is easy because you don't have to get down inside the deep, narrow container most conventional blenders have.

PK, guess I should have talked to you before buying the ring. I called my appliance parts store and they didn't carry anything like that. Told me to buy it on line. I had no idea I could get one at a hardware store.

Years ago I won a prize and could choose from a catalog. I choose an Oster appliance and it was a blender plus some other appliances combined. I used it about three times and it went kaput. I had to buy an expensive part to repair it so Oster brand has given me a bad taste ever since.

Must have been an Oster Kitchen Center like these in my pictures.. unfortunately not one of their better products. All plastic gearing in the mixer guaranteed to break

Oh my goodness, I have major blender jealousy now!

Yes, that picture of the Oster Kitchen Center is just like the one I had. And like you said, part of the plastic gearing broke right away. It was a very expensive piece of plastic to replace. I replaced it and within 3 or 4 more uses it broke again. I tossed the whole thing and it realy was new so you can see why I am not keen on an Oster. Are they still making products today?

I have an old Osterize blender that I got as a wedding present in 1974, LOL. It's gone through countless milk shakes, malteds, salad dressing and dips, Ashley's power shakes, smoothies, and it still chugs along.

Somehow I think they aren't made like that any more, but mine's been a workhorse.

Oster Co. itself was owned by Sunbeam since way back in the late 50's or early 60's, that's why so many of their appliances were essentially similar. Sunbeam took a nose-dive in the 80's being bought out etc in all that merger/selloff mania of the era and their products got cheaper and cheaper made. Most if not all moved to Mexico. You'll still see Oster applianaces on store shelves along with Sunbeam but neither are the same company they were back in the day. Trading on a name and putting it to shame.

I have a similar model to the green one that's in the middle of the 3 blenders, above. It's currently used in our RV, but has a "new" date of 1978 when I was first married. We bought a new white Oster for the house and so the green one went out to the trailer. Both are used for some pretty heavy chopping - the 1978 model chops ice for Mud Slides and the 1999 model does bread crumbs.

We have a hand blender for less strenuous things - an HB, I think. The Osters have hung in there.

I know what you mean, Bev. Each kind has its uses. The stick blender probably is not so handy when you have to drizzle an ingedient in while blending.

Has the Waring blender not been mentioned or did I miss it? I've had one for years that is similar to the chrome based Osterizer in the picture, a real classic. It's heavy duty and has minimal controls.

Here's some Warings. Not pictured is one I found recently, brand new and unused commercial model with the stainless steel jar for $6.99 I believe or close to it.
On the shelf above those are all Sunbeam automatic toasters from various years.

I have one of those Oster Kitchen Centers! I've been fortunate I guess, never had a problem with mine, although it isn't really heavily used. I use the blender & mixer parts quite a bit, but never used the meat grinder & chopper. I usually prefer my hand mixer unless I plan on doing a lot of mixing. I did notice recently that one piece of the plastic gearing is twisted looking, so it may not last much longer. It was second hand & given to me 20 years ago. I'll miss it when it goes, but I'm sure there are better products out there now. Used to have a blender like the green one in the middle of the earlier picture. Wonder where that is, I don't remember getting rid of it...

Beverly, I already have a blender from PK's vintage season. DH bought it when he was in college. Not for drinks LOL, but because he was stocking his kitchen. I was suggesting you find a quality blender on ebay.

Any ideas on finding a quality blender on ebay Jessy? Everything I've bought on ebay has been a bummer when I got it. Just one example is the pressure cooker I bought. The seller said it was his grandmother's and she passed away. It looked great and the first time I used it the steam valve popped out and you can't buy them anymore. And the list goes on and on. Your blender looks likes my Mothers. Hmmmmm, that gives me an idea!

The pressure cooker - ouch - some things are best bought a generation or two later. New PCs have spring valves. Lorna Sass says - 'these are not your grandmother's PCs' and they have come a long way!

Hi Beverly, 99% of the stuff I have hasn't come from Ebay but garage sales, thrift stores etc. I only got sort of burned once on Ebay but they gave me my money back and let me keep the can opener. It was filthy and broken from poor packing, the other few things I've gotten have been great.
So I don't dislike Ebay it just that if you wait or look around you can find all this stuff for cheap and by that I mean like $5 or less usually whereas on Ebay you may get it for $5, $10 or more and then pay to have it shipped.
Of any currently on Ebay though here's what I would bid on if you don't want to go thru all the hassles... just make sure to email them and ask that all the speeds workm,no chips or breaks in the plastic parts etc etc. It looks clean
